Plo Koon is a prominent character in the Star Wars universe, known for his role as a Jedi Master and member of the Jedi High Council during the waning days of the Galactic Republic. He made his first appearance in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and subsequently appeared in the subsequent prequel trilogy films, the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and various other related media. Plo Koon is a member of the Kel Dor species, an alien race characterized by their unique facial structure, which includes a specialized breathing mask to assist them in oxygen-rich environments. He is also known for his strong sense of loyalty, levelheadedness, and steadiness under pressure.
As a Kel Dor from the planet Dorin, Plo Koon was discovered to be sensitive to The Force at a young age and was taken to the Jedi temple on Coruscant for training. As a Jedi, he excelled in a variety of disciplines, including lightsaber combat and pilot training. Plo Koon's mastery of the lightsaber form known as the Form V: Shien / Djem So (which focuses on strength and power) garnered him a reputation as an exceptional duelist. He would later become the master of Padawan Bultar Swan and eventually mentor Ahsoka Tano during the Clone Wars.
Due to his unwavering dedication to peace and his proficiency in the Force, Plo Koon was eventually appointed to the Jedi High Council, where he played an influential role alongside Mace Windu, Yoda, and other notable Jedi. Plo Koon was particularly involved in the decision-making process leading up to and during the Clone Wars, which saw the Galactic Republic wage war against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Throughout the Clone Wars, Plo Koon participated in many crucial battles, such as the Battle of Geonosis and the Battle of Cato Neimoidia, showcasing his skill as both a warrior and a strategist. He also commanded the 104th Battalion, also known as the "Wolfpack," a group of Elite Clone Troopers who were particularly loyal to the Jedi Master. Throughout the war, Plo Koon worked closely with other Jedi, including Anakin Skywaker and Ahsoka Tano, and played a vital role in the Republic's efforts against the Separatist forces.
In addition to his prowess as a lightsaber duelist and starfighter pilot, Plo Koon was known for his adeptness in various Force powers. As a Jedi Master, he was skilled in telekinesis, mind tricks, and the ability to sense danger and see into the future. Plo Koon was also one of the few Jedi to possess the rare, controversial ability known as Electric Judgment, which allowed him to emit powerful, electric-like bursts from his hands, incapacitating or even killing his opponents.
Plo Koon's life came to a tragic end during the execution of Order 66, a directive implanted in the clone troopers by Emperor Palpatine to eliminate the Jedi. Led by Commander CC-3636, also known as "Wolffe," the Wolfpack turned on Plo Koon while he was piloting his starfighter above the planet Cato Neimoidia, shooting him down and resulting in his death. Though his time as a Jedi came to a close, Plo Koon's wisdom, courage, and dedication to peace left a lasting impact on those who knew him and served as a reminder of the values the Jedi Order held dear.
