Anakin Skywalker is a central character in the Star Wars saga, appearing in both the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. Created by George Lucas, Anakin`s story arc is one of tragedy, redemption, and the struggle between good and evil.

Anakin first appears as a young slave on the desert planet of Tatooine in Episode I: The Phantom Menace. He is discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who believes him to be the prophesized "Chosen One" who will bring balance to The Force. Anakin`s exceptional piloting skills and strong connection to The Force lead Qui-Gon to take him under his wing and bring him to the Jedi Council for training. After Qui-Gon`s death, Anakin is trained as a Jedi by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Anakin is portrayed as a skilled, albeit headstrong and impulsive, Jedi Knight. He falls in love with Padmé Amidala, a former Queen and Senator of Naboo, despite the Jedi Code`s prohibition on romantic attachments. Their secret marriage marks the beginning of Anakin`s path toward the dark side.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith sees Anakin`s transformation into Darth Vader, a Sith Lord and the primary antagonist of the original trilogy. Seduced by the dark side and the promise of power by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Anakin turns against the Jedi Order, helps execute Order 66 (the extermination of the Jedi), and becomes Sidious` apprentice. In a climactic duel, Obi-Wan defeats Anakin, leaving him severely injured and requiring a life-supporting suit of armor to survive.

As Darth Vader, Anakin serves the Galactic Empire and aids in the oppression of the galaxy. However, his son, Luke Skywalker, eventually redeems him in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. When Luke is nearly killed by the Emperor, Anakin breaks free from the dark side`s grip, kills Sidious, and sacrifices his own life in the process. Anakin`s spirit is then reunited with his former mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Jedi Master Yoda in the afterlife.

Anakin Skywalker`s story explores themes of Destiny, choice, and the ongoing battle between light and dark in the Star Wars universe. His character is portrayed by Jake Lloyd (young Anakin) in Episode I, Hayden Christensen (adult Anakin) in Episodes II and III, and David Prowse (body) and James Earl Jones (voice) as Darth Vader in the original trilogy.
