Trade Federation

The Trade Federation was a powerful organization that controlled a significant portion of galactic trade routes in the Star Wars universe. It was made up of various corporations and business interests and was led by Viceroy Nute Gunray.

The Trade Federation first gained prominence in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace when they blockaded the peaceful planet of Naboo in protest of new taxation laws. The blockade caused a humanitarian crisis on Naboo and led to the eventual invasion of the planet by Trade Federation droids. The Trade Federation's actions ultimately sparked the events of the prequel trilogy.

While the Trade Federation was officially neutral and not aligned with either the Galactic Republic or the Confederacy of Independent Systems, it is widely believed that they were controlled by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. The Trade Federation was involved in various illegal activities such as smuggling and arms dealing and had a reputation for being ruthless and unscrupulous in their business dealings.

The Trade Federation was eventually disbanded after the fall of the Galactic Empire, but its legacy continued on through former members such as the Corporate Sector Authority.
