Darth Revan

Characters

Darth Revan is one of the most complex characters in the Star Wars universe, whose story is primarily told in the Knights of The Old Republic video games and expanded universe novels. Originally a human male named Revan, he played pivotal roles as both Jedi and Sith in The Mandalorian and Jedi Civil Wars. Despite not being part of the cinematic Star Wars saga, Darth Revan has accumulated a significant fan following for his compelling and nuanced character arc.

Revan's story began as a prodigious Jedi Knight with a keen interest in the history and lore of the Jedi Order. However, when the Mandalorians waged war on the Galactic Republic, Revan disobeyed the Jedi Council's orders not to intervene, and along with his friend Malak, led a faction of Jedi to war. Together, they succeeded in ending the Mandalorian Wars but, haunted by the devastation and manipulated by the Sith Emperor, they were turned to the dark side of The Force. Now using the honorific "Darth," Revan and Malak formed a new Sith Empire, with Revan ascending to be its ruler.

Driven by his newfound ambition, Darth Revan sought to cleanse the galaxy of corrupt influences, which included the Jedi and the Republic. However, before his vision could be realized, he was betrayed by his friend and Sith apprentice Malak, who attacked Revan's ship and left him for dead. Revan was found by the Jedi, who saved his life, and in doing so, unlocked an unprecedented opportunity: they erased Revan’s memory and implanted a new identity free of dark-side influences.

Revan, stripped of his dark past, served the Jedi Order as a soldier and, over time, re-taught himself the ways of the Force. He returned to the Jedi and played an instrumental role in ending the Jedi Civil War, not as a Sith Lord, but as a Jedi Knight. During this process, he uncovered his true past but chose to reject the dark side, symbolizing his path of redemption and transformation.

Ultimately, Darth Revan's story is one of duality, redemption, and transformation, embodying the ongoing struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force. He remains a beloved character in the Star Wars universe for his complex and nuanced nature, serving as a strong reminder of the potential for redemption and change embodied by the Force.
