Darth Plagueis, originally named Hego Damask, was a highly influential figure in the Star Wars universe. A member of the Muun species, Plagueis was a Sith Lord who operated primarily behind the scenes. His name was made famous by Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious), who told Anakin Skywalker (later Darth Vader) the tale of Darth Plagueis "the wise" in the film "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith". Plagueis had the unique ability to manipulate midi-chlorians to create life and prevent death, abilities not held by any other known Sith.
As the apprentice of Darth Tenebrous, Plagueis learned the ways of the Sith Order and ultimately fulfilled the "Rule of Two" by killing his own master. Aside from his unparalleled mastery over The Force, Plagueis was also a genius in manipulating politics. Using his public persona as Magister Hego Damask, an influential financier, he laid the groundwork for the eventual rise of the Empire. Plagueis believed in ruling from the shadows, using subterfuge and manipulation to achieve his goals and extend his influence.
One of Plagueis' most notable actions was taking on Sheev Palpatine as his apprentice. Under the Sith Lord's tutelage, Palpatine learned the ways of the Dark Side and the secrets of life manipulation. Plagueis' ultimate plan was to achieve immortality through mastering The Force and to rule the galaxy in secret. Unfortunately for him, his apprentice had other plans.
Emulating his master, Palpatine also adhered to the "Rule of Two" and in a cruel twist of fate, murdered Plagueis in his sleep, thus becoming the new Sith Master. Palpatine later used the story of Plagueis' fall to manipulate Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side, planting the seeds for his transformation into Darth Vader. Even with his demise, Darth Plagueis' influence and teachings lived on, shaping the course of the entire Star Wars universe.
