The Alphabet Squadron is a prominent unit in the Star Wars universe, first introduced in a novel of the same name written by Alexander Freed. The squadron gets its name because it consists of a variety of starfighter types with designations like A-Wing, B-Wing, Y-wing, etc. Therefore, reminiscent of the alphabet. It was created after the fall of the Galactic Empire while the Rebel Alliance transformed into the New Republic.
This squadron was formed by General Hera Syndulla, a veteran Rebel fighter known from the "Star Wars Rebels" animated series. After the fall of the Empire, Syndulla was tasked with hunting down the remnants of the enemy forces, and for that, she assembled this eclectic team of misfit pilots. Each pilot in the Alphabet Squadron, who comes with diverse skills and backgrounds, pilots a different Starfighter model.
One of the main characters in the squadron is Yrica Quell, an ex-Imperial TIE Fighter pilot who defects to the New Republic. She pilots an X-Wing, reflecting on her journey from oppressor to freedom fighter. Nath Tensent, representing the Y-wing faction, is a middle-aged smuggler and trader, and the only member of the squadron who had been part of the Rebellion for a long time.
Chass na Chadic is a B-wing pilot, who, unlike Quell and Tensent, is relatively young and was attracted to the Rebellion by the music and promise of adventure. Kairos, the U-wing pilot, is a mysterious figure whose past is unknown. Lastly, the A-wing is piloted by Wyl Lark, a humble farmer boy driven by the urge to protect his peaceful Community from the Empire's grasp.
These pilots, each with their unique skillset and background, are bonded by the war against the Empire and united under Syndulla's inclusive and empathetic leadership. Despite their differences, Alphabet Squadron becomes instrumental in the New Republic's dominance, tackling crucial missions and proving the strength of their unorthodox composition time and time again. Their stories serve as a testament to the strength of unity amid diversity, perfectly exemplifying the essence of the Rebellion's spirit.
