[ 00:00:01:00 ] - [ 00:00:05:00 ]
I wonder what the light blue lightsaber means. We'll never know. What does purple
[ 00:00:05:00 ] - [ 00:00:11:00 ]
mean? It means that you wanted a contract that said you got a purple lightsaber and you wouldn't do it.
[ 00:00:11:00 ] - [ 00:00:18:00 ]
That's what it means. Escape tentacles
, corpse leeches, airships, oh my. Meanwhile, a
[ 00:00:18:00 ] - [ 00:00:24:00 ]
prowls the lower levels of Koruscant. Oh, and did I mention Jabba
[ 00:00:24:00 ] - [ 00:00:29:00 ]
the Hutt? Today we discuss Obi-Wan and Anakin
in this edition of the 11 Parsecs
[ 00:00:29:00 ] - [ 00:00:30:00 ]
[ 00:00:43:00 ] - [ 00:00:48:00 ]
Hello and welcome to podcast number seven of the 11 Parsecs podcast. I'm your host, Eric. Here's my good buddy, John.
[ 00:00:48:00 ] - [ 00:00:57:00 ]
Hello. And today we are back to some comics. We're reviewing the first three issues of the Obi-Wan and Anakin
series that came out in 2016 by Charles
[ 00:00:57:00 ] - [ 00:01:06:00 ]
Sewell. And I'm kind of excited because this is our first Charles Sewell. So I have to admit, whenever this comic series, this was actually about
[ 00:01:06:00 ] - [ 00:01:14:00 ]
whenever I started reading new canon Star Wars comics, because this was actually the first series that I purchased and read and loved. And it's
[ 00:01:14:00 ] - [ 00:01:20:00 ]
part of the reason that I kind of fell in love with a lot of the new canon comics that we've talked about that we're going to talk about. But also, too,
[ 00:01:20:00 ] - [ 00:01:28:00 ]
it's the first Charles Sewell, which is... So before I jump into Charles Sewell and kind of give his backstory a little bit more, what do you drink,
[ 00:01:28:00 ] - [ 00:01:28:00 ]
[ 00:01:29:00 ] - [ 00:01:35:00 ]
Tonight, I am enjoying a really, really good beer from Southern Tier
. It is a triple IPA
[ 00:01:36:00 ] - [ 00:01:42:00 ]
So we've expanded a little bit. I believe Southern Tier
is out in Athens, Georgia. And I think we've expanded a little bit.
[ 00:01:42:00 ] - [ 00:01:44:00 ]
[ 00:01:44:00 ] - [ 00:01:46:00 ]
[ 00:01:46:00 ] - [ 00:01:48:00 ]
No, no, no, it's a Georgia brewery.
[ 00:01:48:00 ] - [ 00:01:50:00 ]
You're gonna make me look this up.
[ 00:01:50:00 ] - [ 00:01:55:00 ]
Yeah, I'm gonna make you look this up. I'm pretty sure they're out in Athens if I remember right. But I know they're pretty local.
[ 00:01:55:00 ] - [ 00:01:57:00 ]
They're out in New York, man.
[ 00:01:57:00 ] - [ 00:01:58:00 ]
Are they really?
[ 00:01:58:00 ] - [ 00:01:59:00 ]
Forget about it. It's a New York beer.
[ 00:01:59:00 ] - [ 00:02:04:00 ]
I am totally... It's called Southern Tier
and it's in New York. That's crazy. I swore they had something out in Athens.
[ 00:02:06:00 ] - [ 00:02:12:00 ]
Yeah, no, they are a fantastic brewery. And this beer is probably the best one I've had.
[ 00:02:13:00 ] - [ 00:02:14:00 ]
Which one is it? Sorry.
[ 00:02:14:00 ] - [ 00:02:21:00 ]
The Triple IPA
. I am a sucker for triples. I'm a sucker for Belgian triples and triple IPAs.
[ 00:02:22:00 ] - [ 00:02:25:00 ]
All right, so I had to confirm you're right. And yes, that is the Southern Tier
that I was thinking of. That's crazy.
[ 00:02:25:00 ] - [ 00:02:27:00 ]
I really thought that they were from down in Athens.
[ 00:02:28:00 ] - [ 00:02:32:00 ]
There must be like a Southern Brewing or something like that that I've just got completely confused with.
[ 00:02:32:00 ] - [ 00:02:38:00 ]
It was a beer by Southern something that's like the Hobnail Boot, which is a really, really good IPA
that I've had before.
[ 00:02:38:00 ] - [ 00:02:41:00 ]
It rings a bell. I don't know what brewery that is. But yes, I've heard that beer name.
[ 00:02:41:00 ] - [ 00:02:44:00 ]
I am drinking an Elysian Super Fuzz.
[ 00:02:44:00 ] - [ 00:02:46:00 ]
Oh, very nice.
[ 00:02:46:00 ] - [ 00:02:51:00 ]
Yeah, I actually have not had the Super Fuzz. I've had tons of Elysian stuff, but I have not had the Super Fuzz.
[ 00:02:51:00 ] - [ 00:02:53:00 ]
It's been a while, but yes, very nice.
[ 00:02:53:00 ] - [ 00:02:57:00 ]
The Blood Orange Pale Ale. Are you ready to pop tops?
[ 00:02:57:00 ] - [ 00:03:01:00 ]
I already had to open my bottle. I don't have a can this time.
[ 00:03:01:00 ] - [ 00:03:03:00 ]
Well, here we go.
[ 00:03:03:00 ] - [ 00:03:08:00 ]
And also, I'm pouring into a nice icy mug. I'm excited.
[ 00:03:08:00 ] - [ 00:03:11:00 ]
Sorry, that was my mug sitting under the counter.
[ 00:03:11:00 ] - [ 00:03:13:00 ]
Oh, can you hear that?
[ 00:03:13:00 ] - [ 00:03:15:00 ]
I can. That's awesome.
[ 00:03:15:00 ] - [ 00:03:17:00 ]
I can actually hear it through my monitor.
[ 00:03:17:00 ] - [ 00:03:19:00 ]
This beer makes sound!
[ 00:03:19:00 ] - [ 00:03:21:00 ]
It does. It's amazing.
[ 00:03:21:00 ] - [ 00:03:25:00 ]
Okay, so I was about to ask you what your 1-100 was, but let me give you...
[ 00:03:25:00 ] - [ 00:03:31:00 ]
So Charles was, in my opinion, one of the first writers that's kind of graduated from Star Wars.
[ 00:03:31:00 ] - [ 00:03:35:00 ]
I'm not joking when I say he could probably write a film at this point.
[ 00:03:35:00 ] - [ 00:03:41:00 ]
He's a really, really good writer. Really well respected by people, too.
[ 00:03:41:00 ] - [ 00:03:45:00 ]
He's got The Oracle Year, which was his first book, which was good.
[ 00:03:45:00 ] - [ 00:03:47:00 ]
And then Any One was his latest book.
[ 00:03:47:00 ] - [ 00:03:51:00 ]
But he's also writing for the new Hyrule Republic
[ 00:03:51:00 ] - [ 00:03:55:00 ]
So I expect whichever one he comes out with during that thing is going to be great, too.
[ 00:03:55:00 ] - [ 00:04:02:00 ]
He did, I think, the second volume of Vader
, which we'll get to kind of soon, after all The Clone Wars
[ 00:04:02:00 ] - [ 00:04:05:00 ]
And then he did some X-Men stuff.
[ 00:04:05:00 ] - [ 00:04:10:00 ]
And then also he's got a really, really good comic that I like now called Undiscovered Country, which just started.
[ 00:04:10:00 ] - [ 00:04:14:00 ]
I think it just got done with the first ARC hit, graphic paperback.
[ 00:04:14:00 ] - [ 00:04:16:00 ]
Is that about Star Trek?
[ 00:04:16:00 ] - [ 00:04:20:00 ]
It is not. It is actually about... I don't even know how to...
[ 00:04:20:00 ] - [ 00:04:25:00 ]
I'm being 100% honest when I say that I would not be surprised if somebody has already contacted him about the movie rights.
[ 00:04:25:00 ] - [ 00:04:28:00 ]
Because it's crazy.
[ 00:04:28:00 ] - [ 00:04:34:00 ]
Oh, he also wrote Curse Words, too. Yeah, Curse Words is a great comic about the wizard and his koala that go around.
[ 00:04:34:00 ] - [ 00:04:39:00 ]
It's odd. I can't really give it... I don't want to describe them too much because you can't give them justice.
[ 00:04:39:00 ] - [ 00:04:43:00 ]
Because they're slightly odd, but very good.
[ 00:04:43:00 ] - [ 00:04:45:00 ]
If you're into comics, check out Undiscovered Country.
[ 00:04:45:00 ] - [ 00:04:51:00 ]
And then definitely check out The Wizard and Curse Words. Both pretty good.
[ 00:04:51:00 ] - [ 00:04:55:00 ]
So, one out of 100. Just the first three comics.
[ 00:04:55:00 ] - [ 00:04:57:00 ]
What you got?
[ 00:04:57:00 ] - [ 00:04:59:00 ]
Okay, so again, you have...
[ 00:04:59:00 ] - [ 00:05:01:00 ]
I think I'd be ready for this question.
[ 00:05:01:00 ] - [ 00:05:02:00 ]
No, no, I know you're never ready.
[ 00:05:02:00 ] - [ 00:05:03:00 ]
Subconsciously, I love it.
[ 00:05:03:00 ] - [ 00:05:06:00 ]
Subconsciously, I think I I purposefully don't prepare for this.
[ 00:05:07:00 ] - [ 00:05:11:00 ]
I got off to a kind of a slow start for me, but by the certainly
[ 00:05:11:00 ] - [ 00:05:15:00 ]
into the third issue, really good, really good.
[ 00:05:15:00 ] - [ 00:05:18:00 ]
So I'm going to say.
[ 00:05:18:00 ] - [ 00:05:20:00 ]
I'll just make it easy and say a 90.
[ 00:05:20:00 ] - [ 00:05:22:00 ]
OK, good. That's pretty good. That's good.
[ 00:05:22:00 ] - [ 00:05:23:00 ]
OK, that's a good that's a good.
[ 00:05:23:00 ] - [ 00:05:25:00 ]
So like I said, this was the first series that I really read comic wise,
[ 00:05:25:00 ] - [ 00:05:27:00 ]
and I loved it so much.
[ 00:05:27:00 ] - [ 00:05:29:00 ]
And I got to ask you, too, about about the art.
[ 00:05:30:00 ] - [ 00:05:32:00 ]
Mark and I'm going to butcher his name is I think it's Chiquito,
[ 00:05:32:00 ] - [ 00:05:34:00 ]
if I'm not mistaken.
[ 00:05:34:00 ] - [ 00:05:36:00 ]
But he was the artist of Marco Chiquito.
[ 00:05:37:00 ] - [ 00:05:41:00 ]
He was the artist for this, and it's a different style than the Colin
[ 00:05:41:00 ] - [ 00:05:44:00 ]
Bunn stuff that we've with the with the Darth Maul
[ 00:05:44:00 ] - [ 00:05:49:00 ]
And it's a neat kind of difference because for me personally,
[ 00:05:49:00 ] - [ 00:05:52:00 ]
I like the art style in this one
[ 00:05:52:00 ] - [ 00:05:55:00 ]
because it reminds me of like like late 90s X-Men.
[ 00:05:55:00 ] - [ 00:05:58:00 ]
Like it just it just like feels like a 90s, like the way that the
[ 00:05:58:00 ] - [ 00:06:02:00 ]
the positions of like like the hooded Obi Wan
with the Wind whipping around them.
[ 00:06:02:00 ] - [ 00:06:04:00 ]
And like when Obi Wan
like grabs the knife,
[ 00:06:04:00 ] - [ 00:06:06:00 ]
it's like this kind of wizard sitting up on a hill thing.
[ 00:06:06:00 ] - [ 00:06:09:00 ]
Like it's a very distinct layout to some of the pages
[ 00:06:09:00 ] - [ 00:06:12:00 ]
and the way that some of the characters are in those pages.
[ 00:06:13:00 ] - [ 00:06:14:00 ]
That feels really cool.
[ 00:06:14:00 ] - [ 00:06:17:00 ]
Feels like Jim Lee feels like like old, like just really cool X-Men for me,
[ 00:06:17:00 ] - [ 00:06:19:00 ]
at least whenever I was growing up.
[ 00:06:19:00 ] - [ 00:06:22:00 ]
What did you think of the art compared to the other art, which
[ 00:06:22:00 ] - [ 00:06:24:00 ]
I love Colin Bunn and I loved the Darth Maul
[ 00:06:24:00 ] - [ 00:06:27:00 ]
They're they're both excellent, excellent artists in their own right.
[ 00:06:28:00 ] - [ 00:06:29:00 ]
But it's a different style.
[ 00:06:29:00 ] - [ 00:06:31:00 ]
Could did you like it less? Did you like it more?
[ 00:06:32:00 ] - [ 00:06:35:00 ]
I honestly it took me a minute to warm up to it.
[ 00:06:35:00 ] - [ 00:06:37:00 ]
I like it. I think it's well done.
[ 00:06:37:00 ] - [ 00:06:39:00 ]
You can't criticize. I mean, these are these are pros.
[ 00:06:39:00 ] - [ 00:06:42:00 ]
But it took me a minute to really get into it.
[ 00:06:43:00 ] - [ 00:06:45:00 ]
And I got to tell you, just jump again right off the bat.
[ 00:06:46:00 ] - [ 00:06:47:00 ]
What is this? Page eight.
[ 00:06:47:00 ] - [ 00:06:50:00 ]
Page eight. Panel number two.
[ 00:06:51:00 ] - [ 00:06:52:00 ]
I have no idea what I'm looking at.
[ 00:06:52:00 ] - [ 00:06:55:00 ]
Panel number two. Hold on. I'm pulling it up. Sorry.
[ 00:06:55:00 ] - [ 00:06:57:00 ]
It's it's like the squid panel.
[ 00:06:57:00 ] - [ 00:06:59:00 ]
The giant. Yeah. What is that?
[ 00:06:59:00 ] - [ 00:07:02:00 ]
So so as I understand it, those are escape pods.
[ 00:07:02:00 ] - [ 00:07:05:00 ]
And then this is as I understand it, because I totally agree with you
[ 00:07:05:00 ] - [ 00:07:06:00 ]
that it's a very weird panel.
[ 00:07:06:00 ] - [ 00:07:08:00 ]
Are those the escape pods?
[ 00:07:09:00 ] - [ 00:07:11:00 ]
OK, so we see a ship in panel one.
[ 00:07:11:00 ] - [ 00:07:13:00 ]
I understand that panel.
[ 00:07:13:00 ] - [ 00:07:17:00 ]
And then there's these like Lego blocks with squids coming out of them.
[ 00:07:18:00 ] - [ 00:07:19:00 ]
And then panel three is like little.
[ 00:07:19:00 ] - [ 00:07:21:00 ]
Those are the escape pods.
[ 00:07:21:00 ] - [ 00:07:24:00 ]
What is panel two? I have no idea what that is.
[ 00:07:25:00 ] - [ 00:07:27:00 ]
Yeah. Now that you say that, it does look like like speeders, maybe.
[ 00:07:28:00 ] - [ 00:07:29:00 ]
OK, here's what I thought.
[ 00:07:29:00 ] - [ 00:07:32:00 ]
Here's what I thought was going on was I thought that Obi-Wan
[ 00:07:32:00 ] - [ 00:07:34:00 ]
[ 00:07:34:00 ] - [ 00:07:37:00 ]
The ship releases some kind of pods to save them.
[ 00:07:38:00 ] - [ 00:07:40:00 ]
And before they hit the ground, there's like tentacle things wrap around
[ 00:07:40:00 ] - [ 00:07:43:00 ]
the pods and let them roll to wherever they need to roll.
[ 00:07:44:00 ] - [ 00:07:46:00 ]
Is that not what you got from it?
[ 00:07:46:00 ] - [ 00:07:49:00 ]
Well, so that would make sense.
[ 00:07:49:00 ] - [ 00:07:52:00 ]
But the dialogue does not line up with that at all.
[ 00:07:52:00 ] - [ 00:07:57:00 ]
They talk about a debris field, you know, that they they they portray it.
[ 00:07:57:00 ] - [ 00:08:00:00 ]
And panel one backs this up that the ship that they were coming in with,
[ 00:08:01:00 ] - [ 00:08:02:00 ]
they hit a bunch of debris.
[ 00:08:02:00 ] - [ 00:08:05:00 ]
The ship was was really damaged and boom escape pods.
[ 00:08:05:00 ] - [ 00:08:08:00 ]
But panel two, I have no idea what that is.
[ 00:08:08:00 ] - [ 00:08:09:00 ]
I really don't.
[ 00:08:09:00 ] - [ 00:08:13:00 ]
You know, now that you say. Oh, no, I just clicked.
[ 00:08:13:00 ] - [ 00:08:14:00 ]
Oh, my God.
[ 00:08:14:00 ] - [ 00:08:16:00 ]
I just those are ejection seats.
[ 00:08:16:00 ] - [ 00:08:19:00 ]
And the tentacles coming around are what formed the pod.
[ 00:08:19:00 ] - [ 00:08:21:00 ]
Yeah, so that's right.
[ 00:08:21:00 ] - [ 00:08:23:00 ]
So I thought it was the tentacles forming the pod.
[ 00:08:23:00 ] - [ 00:08:24:00 ]
I agree with you now.
[ 00:08:24:00 ] - [ 00:08:26:00 ]
You can explain that.
[ 00:08:26:00 ] - [ 00:08:27:00 ]
Well, that's what I thought was.
[ 00:08:27:00 ] - [ 00:08:29:00 ]
Yeah, now I got it now.
[ 00:08:29:00 ] - [ 00:08:30:00 ]
But now I got that.
[ 00:08:30:00 ] - [ 00:08:31:00 ]
That was so bizarre.
[ 00:08:31:00 ] - [ 00:08:33:00 ]
I agree. I agree with you because now.
[ 00:08:34:00 ] - [ 00:08:36:00 ]
So I initially thought that the ship had broken apart
[ 00:08:37:00 ] - [ 00:08:39:00 ]
and those were the pods getting wrapped up and then falling down and rolling.
[ 00:08:40:00 ] - [ 00:08:41:00 ]
But I think you're right.
[ 00:08:41:00 ] - [ 00:08:43:00 ]
I think those are supposed to be seats from the actual ship itself.
[ 00:08:43:00 ] - [ 00:08:44:00 ]
That's why you see this now.
[ 00:08:44:00 ] - [ 00:08:45:00 ]
They're sitting in the seats.
[ 00:08:45:00 ] - [ 00:08:47:00 ]
I know. I agree with you.
[ 00:08:47:00 ] - [ 00:08:50:00 ]
Yeah, they're they're really like a F-16 blast up.
[ 00:08:50:00 ] - [ 00:08:51:00 ]
[ 00:08:51:00 ] - [ 00:08:53:00 ]
Goose Maverick type situation here.
[ 00:08:53:00 ] - [ 00:08:55:00 ]
OK, so so now I was wrong, too.
[ 00:08:55:00 ] - [ 00:08:58:00 ]
OK, but I literally looked at that panel and just kind of.
[ 00:08:58:00 ] - [ 00:09:01:00 ]
And to be fair, I didn't study as much as you do with tentacle stuff.
[ 00:09:01:00 ] - [ 00:09:04:00 ]
But I saw it and I was like, well, when I see tentacles,
[ 00:09:04:00 ] - [ 00:09:07:00 ]
I mean, you have my attention now.
[ 00:09:07:00 ] - [ 00:09:11:00 ]
And I also will say that the tentacle things look biological.
[ 00:09:12:00 ] - [ 00:09:14:00 ]
But yet the pods look mechanical.
[ 00:09:14:00 ] - [ 00:09:15:00 ]
Yes, that makes sense. Yes.
[ 00:09:15:00 ] - [ 00:09:18:00 ]
So it is a little bit of an odd transition from those two panels.
[ 00:09:18:00 ] - [ 00:09:19:00 ]
I agree with that.
[ 00:09:20:00 ] - [ 00:09:24:00 ]
Yeah, they made them look so much like tentacles that it threw me off entirely.
[ 00:09:24:00 ] - [ 00:09:26:00 ]
I think between the two of us, we've solved these three panels.
[ 00:09:27:00 ] - [ 00:09:28:00 ]
The mystery of the tentacles. Yes.
[ 00:09:28:00 ] - [ 00:09:29:00 ]
The tentacle panel.
[ 00:09:29:00 ] - [ 00:09:32:00 ]
So anyway, moving beyond that,
[ 00:09:32:00 ] - [ 00:09:36:00 ]
jumping ahead, there's a there's a panel on page 13.
[ 00:09:37:00 ] - [ 00:09:39:00 ]
Well, actually, I mean, it is page 13.
[ 00:09:40:00 ] - [ 00:09:43:00 ]
That's sort of gauzy art style.
[ 00:09:43:00 ] - [ 00:09:46:00 ]
I actually really like that.
[ 00:09:46:00 ] - [ 00:09:46:00 ]
Do you know what I mean?
[ 00:09:46:00 ] - [ 00:09:48:00 ]
It's not it's not crystal clear.
[ 00:09:48:00 ] - [ 00:09:49:00 ]
It's not sharp edges.
[ 00:09:49:00 ] - [ 00:09:53:00 ]
It's more like like an action film.
[ 00:09:53:00 ] - [ 00:10:12:00 ]
That's a very storyboardish panel or page, if that makes sense.
[ 00:10:13:00 ] - [ 00:10:15:00 ]
It's like this huge thing happening.
[ 00:10:15:00 ] - [ 00:10:17:00 ]
I'm in total agreement with you.
[ 00:10:17:00 ] - [ 00:10:19:00 ]
I think too that it looks, for me at least,
[ 00:10:19:00 ] - [ 00:10:22:00 ]
the art in this thing is very steampunk-ish maybe?
[ 00:10:22:00 ] - [ 00:10:23:00 ]
Maybe that's the best way to kind of...
[ 00:10:23:00 ] - [ 00:10:24:00 ]
There's a touch of that.
[ 00:10:24:00 ] - [ 00:10:28:00 ]
Yeah, and it's just kind of like this huge, massive ships.
[ 00:10:28:00 ] - [ 00:10:30:00 ]
And then what's kind of weird though is you get these massive ships
[ 00:10:30:00 ] - [ 00:10:32:00 ]
but yet you only get like two or three people in these whole ships,
[ 00:10:32:00 ] - [ 00:10:35:00 ]
which are huge, which is weird.
[ 00:10:35:00 ] - [ 00:10:38:00 ]
But I don't know, maybe that's part of the storyline too, further on down.
[ 00:10:38:00 ] - [ 00:10:41:00 ]
Right. So what's your rating?
[ 00:10:41:00 ] - [ 00:10:45:00 ]
I'm high. I'm 93, 94.
[ 00:10:45:00 ] - [ 00:10:46:00 ]
I like this series because...
[ 00:10:46:00 ] - [ 00:10:49:00 ]
So also too, there was a video game,
[ 00:10:49:00 ] - [ 00:10:53:00 ]
and I forget the name of it, 1366 or level 1366,
[ 00:10:53:00 ] - [ 00:10:54:00 ]
that was supposed to come out.
[ 00:10:54:00 ] - [ 00:10:56:00 ]
I want to say it was Visceral Games, but I'm not sure.
[ 00:10:56:00 ] - [ 00:10:58:00 ]
It was under the Star Wars franchise,
[ 00:10:58:00 ] - [ 00:11:01:00 ]
that it was supposed to be like a first player RPG
[ 00:11:01:00 ] - [ 00:11:04:00 ]
where you're going through the different levels of Coruscant
[ 00:11:04:00 ] - [ 00:11:06:00 ]
And I didn't realize that whenever they showed like the...
[ 00:11:06:00 ] - [ 00:11:08:00 ]
I don't think it was a demo,
[ 00:11:08:00 ] - [ 00:11:11:00 ]
but like when they started talking about the game itself,
[ 00:11:11:00 ] - [ 00:11:13:00 ]
I didn't realize really that Coruscant
was so deep,
[ 00:11:13:00 ] - [ 00:11:16:00 ]
like that you're 2000 levels down.
[ 00:11:16:00 ] - [ 00:11:18:00 ]
It's like a whole planet of levels.
[ 00:11:18:00 ] - [ 00:11:22:00 ]
And I thought that the idea of this planet going,
[ 00:11:22:00 ] - [ 00:11:25:00 ]
not like 100 or 200 levels, but like thousands of levels down
[ 00:11:25:00 ] - [ 00:11:27:00 ]
is an absolutely cool thing.
[ 00:11:27:00 ] - [ 00:11:30:00 ]
And I remember whenever I read this comment back when it came out,
[ 00:11:30:00 ] - [ 00:11:32:00 ]
I was kind of like, oh, this is awesome,
[ 00:11:32:00 ] - [ 00:11:34:00 ]
because they're studying or they're like, we may get more into this.
[ 00:11:34:00 ] - [ 00:11:39:00 ]
We may get more into like level 2372 is where the blah, blah, blah people are.
[ 00:11:39:00 ] - [ 00:11:42:00 ]
And then, you know, it's a really neat way to explore a planet
[ 00:11:42:00 ] - [ 00:11:46:00 ]
that you see all the time in the movies and stuff like that,
[ 00:11:46:00 ] - [ 00:11:49:00 ]
but that you really don't have the inkling of what the underbelly looks like.
[ 00:11:49:00 ] - [ 00:11:51:00 ]
So whenever I read this the first time, that was definitely...
[ 00:11:51:00 ] - [ 00:11:54:00 ]
And we'll talk about it, like, as we talk about it, Issue 3.
[ 00:11:54:00 ] - [ 00:11:58:00 ]
That was really a cool thing that was like this seedy kind of Coruscant
[ 00:11:58:00 ] - [ 00:12:00:00 ]
And I guess we technically had it with Maul
, though, didn't we?
[ 00:12:00:00 ] - [ 00:12:02:00 ]
Yeah, we did in the Age of Maul
[ 00:12:02:00 ] - [ 00:12:07:00 ]
Yeah, but I'm always going to think of Trantor
[ 00:12:07:00 ] - [ 00:12:11:00 ]
when you have a world-circling city with deep levels.
[ 00:12:11:00 ] - [ 00:12:13:00 ]
Yeah, and it's vertical. It's more of a vertical thing.
[ 00:12:13:00 ] - [ 00:12:17:00 ]
And also, too, to a point, The Expanse had some of that, too.
[ 00:12:17:00 ] - [ 00:12:20:00 ]
I think it was Mars, or maybe it was the asteroid
[ 00:12:20:00 ] - [ 00:12:23:00 ]
where everybody kind of lived on different levels and stuff like that.
[ 00:12:23:00 ] - [ 00:12:27:00 ]
Yeah, it's good. It's a neat kind of dive into that world,
[ 00:12:27:00 ] - [ 00:12:30:00 ]
and I enjoyed that a lot.
[ 00:12:30:00 ] - [ 00:12:34:00 ]
And also, too, let me ask your opinion on this.
[ 00:12:34:00 ] - [ 00:12:38:00 ]
There's two parts in these first three issues.
[ 00:12:38:00 ] - [ 00:12:41:00 ]
Did you have any parts that you had a hard time with in the comic?
[ 00:12:41:00 ] - [ 00:12:43:00 ]
Other than the tentacles?
[ 00:12:43:00 ] - [ 00:12:44:00 ]
Other than the tentacles.
[ 00:12:44:00 ] - [ 00:12:46:00 ]
Did you have anything that you had a hard time...
[ 00:12:46:00 ] - [ 00:12:50:00 ]
that you found were weird transitions or just a weird part of the story
[ 00:12:50:00 ] - [ 00:12:52:00 ]
that stuck out to you as the first time reading it?
[ 00:12:52:00 ] - [ 00:12:57:00 ]
No, I enjoyed it quite a bit for reasons that we can get into.
[ 00:12:57:00 ] - [ 00:13:00:00 ]
Right there on the next page, page 14,
[ 00:13:00:00 ] - [ 00:13:04:00 ]
I love that Obi-Wan is reminding Anakin
[ 00:13:04:00 ] - [ 00:13:07:00 ]
you know, here's your lightsaber. You kind of dropped it.
[ 00:13:07:00 ] - [ 00:13:09:00 ]
And what do we see that in?
[ 00:13:09:00 ] - [ 00:13:11:00 ]
[ 00:13:11:00 ] - [ 00:13:13:00 ]
this lightsaber is your life.
[ 00:13:13:00 ] - [ 00:13:16:00 ]
He's trying to remind Anakin
that you need this thing, idiot.
[ 00:13:16:00 ] - [ 00:13:20:00 ]
And that makes me call back to the Darth Maul
[ 00:13:20:00 ] - [ 00:13:24:00 ]
where she, whatever her name was, Idris Elba or something,
[ 00:13:24:00 ] - [ 00:13:25:00 ]
threw her lightsaber...
[ 00:13:25:00 ] - [ 00:13:26:00 ]
[ 00:13:26:00 ] - [ 00:13:30:00 ]
[ 00:13:30:00 ] - [ 00:13:32:00 ]
She has a lightsaber, right?
[ 00:13:32:00 ] - [ 00:13:34:00 ]
So she throws it in the rock, trying to kill Darth Maul
[ 00:13:34:00 ] - [ 00:13:37:00 ]
crumbles the wall, and basically what I said at the time,
[ 00:13:37:00 ] - [ 00:13:39:00 ]
why did you throw away your lightsaber? Don't do that.
[ 00:13:39:00 ] - [ 00:13:43:00 ]
And what I was kind of evoking there was Obi-Wan saying,
[ 00:13:43:00 ] - [ 00:13:46:00 ]
don't lose your lightsaber, stupid.
[ 00:13:46:00 ] - [ 00:13:49:00 ]
Okay, I want you to remember these panels.
[ 00:13:49:00 ] - [ 00:13:50:00 ]
[ 00:13:50:00 ] - [ 00:13:53:00 ]
That's all I'm going to say. We'll talk about it more later.
[ 00:13:53:00 ] - [ 00:13:56:00 ]
So I have a couple...
[ 00:13:56:00 ] - [ 00:14:01:00 ]
[ 00:14:01:00 ] - [ 00:14:03:00 ]
in my opinion, is still a little odd.
[ 00:14:03:00 ] - [ 00:14:06:00 ]
I get him using the, I'm the Chancellor, to Windu
[ 00:14:06:00 ] - [ 00:14:12:00 ]
Yeah, I think they covered that with enough of an excuse of an explanation.
[ 00:14:12:00 ] - [ 00:14:14:00 ]
I'm the Chancellor.
[ 00:14:14:00 ] - [ 00:14:16:00 ]
You see Windu
's face too, kind of be like, fine.
[ 00:14:16:00 ] - [ 00:14:20:00 ]
I got to do this. He is above me,
[ 00:14:20:00 ] - [ 00:14:24:00 ]
and I do have to relinquish control to him whenever he asks for something like this.
[ 00:14:24:00 ] - [ 00:14:29:00 ]
Wouldn't it have been really cool if they had done a little subtle Palpatine
[ 00:14:29:00 ] - [ 00:14:31:00 ]
[ 00:14:31:00 ] - [ 00:14:32:00 ]
Yeah, it would have been.
[ 00:14:32:00 ] - [ 00:14:33:00 ]
He can go with me.
[ 00:14:33:00 ] - [ 00:14:34:00 ]
[ 00:14:34:00 ] - [ 00:14:36:00 ]
That would have been, whoa.
[ 00:14:36:00 ] - [ 00:14:37:00 ]
Yeah, that would have been even...
[ 00:14:37:00 ] - [ 00:14:42:00 ]
Because we can't lose sight of the fact that this guy is walking around among Jedi.
[ 00:14:42:00 ] - [ 00:14:43:00 ]
[ 00:14:43:00 ] - [ 00:14:45:00 ]
And he's the big bad, and they have no idea.
[ 00:14:45:00 ] - [ 00:14:49:00 ]
No clue. They are so in a fog, they have no clue whatsoever.
[ 00:14:49:00 ] - [ 00:14:52:00 ]
Also, too, I enjoy...
[ 00:14:52:00 ] - [ 00:14:56:00 ]
One of the parts that I did definitely enjoy was that Palpatine
was happy to be watching
[ 00:14:56:00 ] - [ 00:15:01:00 ]
whenever he faced the Darth Maul
look-alike, like, what do you call it?
[ 00:15:01:00 ] - [ 00:15:02:00 ]
[ 00:15:02:00 ] - [ 00:15:03:00 ]
[ 00:15:03:00 ] - [ 00:15:04:00 ]
Hollow bot, or whatever you want to call it.
[ 00:15:04:00 ] - [ 00:15:07:00 ]
And then he slices him in half, and it's just like a perfect kind of like, oh, I get it.
[ 00:15:07:00 ] - [ 00:15:10:00 ]
's like, is this the young Skywalker?
[ 00:15:10:00 ] - [ 00:15:11:00 ]
[ 00:15:11:00 ] - [ 00:15:21:00 ]
[ 00:15:21:00 ] - [ 00:15:25:00 ]
There is a part that I find a little bit shifting
[ 00:15:25:00 ] - [ 00:15:29:00 ]
, toward the third issue,
[ 00:15:29:00 ] - [ 00:15:31:00 ]
is like, they're just like us.
[ 00:15:31:00 ] - [ 00:15:32:00 ]
And he's like, oh, well, yeah, they are.
[ 00:15:32:00 ] - [ 00:15:33:00 ]
[ 00:15:33:00 ] - [ 00:15:35:00 ]
And then he's like, no, I mean us and the Sith
[ 00:15:35:00 ] - [ 00:15:37:00 ]
And I'm like, where did that come from?
[ 00:15:37:00 ] - [ 00:15:38:00 ]
Like, it's kind of weird.
[ 00:15:38:00 ] - [ 00:15:39:00 ]
[ 00:15:39:00 ] - [ 00:15:40:00 ]
That was a little weird.
[ 00:15:40:00 ] - [ 00:15:41:00 ]
[ 00:15:41:00 ] - [ 00:15:42:00 ]
Yeah, that's probably what I feel.
[ 00:15:42:00 ] - [ 00:15:43:00 ]
In these first three issues,
[ 00:15:43:00 ] - [ 00:15:46:00 ]
that's probably one of the ones where I'm just kind of like,
[ 00:15:46:00 ] - [ 00:15:47:00 ]
yeah, I don't know.
[ 00:15:47:00 ] - [ 00:15:50:00 ]
Like, I'm just kind of like a, that was kind of a,
[ 00:15:50:00 ] - [ 00:15:54:00 ]
like, if we have kids, if you have kids,
[ 00:15:54:00 ] - [ 00:15:55:00 ]
you can definitely tell when weird questions pop up
[ 00:15:55:00 ] - [ 00:15:57:00 ]
that your kid has been thinking about it
[ 00:15:57:00 ] - [ 00:15:58:00 ]
for a really long time.
[ 00:15:58:00 ] - [ 00:16:00:00 ]
If it's like a random question at a random time.
[ 00:16:00:00 ] - [ 00:16:03:00 ]
And I felt like that was like supposed to be what
[ 00:16:03:00 ] - [ 00:16:05:00 ]
they were kind of conveying with Anakin
[ 00:16:05:00 ] - [ 00:16:06:00 ]
where he's like, I've really been thinking about this
[ 00:16:06:00 ] - [ 00:16:07:00 ]
a bunch, but now I'm going to say something to,
[ 00:16:07:00 ] - [ 00:16:09:00 ]
you know, to bring it to the forefront.
[ 00:16:09:00 ] - [ 00:16:10:00 ]
You know what I mean?
[ 00:16:10:00 ] - [ 00:16:11:00 ]
Like, I'm going to make this comment
[ 00:16:11:00 ] - [ 00:16:13:00 ]
and it's going to be so clever.
[ 00:16:13:00 ] - [ 00:16:14:00 ]
I'm going to impress my master.
[ 00:16:14:00 ] - [ 00:16:15:00 ]
[ 00:16:15:00 ] - [ 00:16:18:00 ]
Like, I've been, I've really thought this up
[ 00:16:18:00 ] - [ 00:16:20:00 ]
and been waiting for the perfect time to say it.
[ 00:16:20:00 ] - [ 00:16:21:00 ]
But it's still a little,
[ 00:16:21:00 ] - [ 00:16:24:00 ]
but it's still a little odd and jarring though.
[ 00:16:24:00 ] - [ 00:16:24:00 ]
Cause you're just kind of like.
[ 00:16:24:00 ] - [ 00:16:25:00 ]
Well, no, in that context, I love that.
[ 00:16:25:00 ] - [ 00:16:28:00 ]
In that context, it actually, I love it now.
[ 00:16:28:00 ] - [ 00:16:29:00 ]
I really like that.
[ 00:16:29:00 ] - [ 00:16:32:00 ]
That you just explained that perfectly.
[ 00:16:32:00 ] - [ 00:16:34:00 ]
I don't have any idea if that's what he intended,
[ 00:16:35:00 ] - [ 00:16:36:00 ]
but it makes sense.
[ 00:16:36:00 ] - [ 00:16:38:00 ]
[ 00:16:38:00 ] - [ 00:16:39:00 ]
[ 00:16:39:00 ] - [ 00:16:40:00 ]
Love your creation error.
[ 00:16:40:00 ] - [ 00:16:41:00 ]
[ 00:16:41:00 ] - [ 00:16:43:00 ]
[ 00:16:43:00 ] - [ 00:16:45:00 ]
I'm feeling in the gaps in between the panels.
[ 00:16:45:00 ] - [ 00:16:46:00 ]
[ 00:16:46:00 ] - [ 00:16:48:00 ]
I can never get a feel in this comic
[ 00:16:48:00 ] - [ 00:16:50:00 ]
where when Anakin
's on the lower levels,
[ 00:16:50:00 ] - [ 00:16:51:00 ]
like what is he thinking?
[ 00:16:51:00 ] - [ 00:16:54:00 ]
Cause I mean, this is like, this is like the big,
[ 00:16:54:00 ] - [ 00:16:55:00 ]
like, let's just say that, you know,
[ 00:16:55:00 ] - [ 00:16:57:00 ]
[ 00:16:57:00 ] - [ 00:16:59:00 ]
So this is like, you know, the president,
[ 00:16:59:00 ] - [ 00:17:01:00 ]
whoever the president is at that time,
[ 00:17:01:00 ] - [ 00:17:04:00 ]
is like, he wants to take you down to the ghetto.
[ 00:17:04:00 ] - [ 00:17:05:00 ]
Like, like, like the, like the lower,
[ 00:17:05:00 ] - [ 00:17:09:00 ]
like the, like the, like the, the worst part of town.
[ 00:17:09:00 ] - [ 00:17:10:00 ]
I mean, what, what do you do?
[ 00:17:10:00 ] - [ 00:17:11:00 ]
Like, number one, you've got to be nervous as a,
[ 00:17:11:00 ] - [ 00:17:13:00 ]
[ 00:17:13:00 ] - [ 00:17:14:00 ]
you don't know that who he is.
[ 00:17:14:00 ] - [ 00:17:15:00 ]
You don't know his power.
[ 00:17:15:00 ] - [ 00:17:18:00 ]
So it's kind of like, I'm going to defend this guy.
[ 00:17:18:00 ] - [ 00:17:19:00 ]
Like if something goes wrong,
[ 00:17:19:00 ] - [ 00:17:20:00 ]
I have to give my life for this guy.
[ 00:17:20:00 ] - [ 00:17:21:00 ]
You know what I mean?
[ 00:17:21:00 ] - [ 00:17:22:00 ]
Cause that's who he is.
[ 00:17:22:00 ] - [ 00:17:23:00 ]
I have to do this.
[ 00:17:23:00 ] - [ 00:17:24:00 ]
This is what I've sworn to do.
[ 00:17:24:00 ] - [ 00:17:25:00 ]
But also you're kind of like,
[ 00:17:25:00 ] - [ 00:17:27:00 ]
why did you choose me to come down here?
[ 00:17:27:00 ] - [ 00:17:29:00 ]
Like, this is super weird.
[ 00:17:29:00 ] - [ 00:17:31:00 ]
The last guy, I didn't even know his name,
[ 00:17:31:00 ] - [ 00:17:32:00 ]
you know, Valorum, that's it.
[ 00:17:32:00 ] - [ 00:17:33:00 ]
You know, and he never did this.
[ 00:17:33:00 ] - [ 00:17:34:00 ]
He never took kids on field trips.
[ 00:17:34:00 ] - [ 00:17:35:00 ]
It's kind of like weird.
[ 00:17:35:00 ] - [ 00:17:37:00 ]
It could be playing to his ego.
[ 00:17:37:00 ] - [ 00:17:39:00 ]
I, I, now that you bring it up,
[ 00:17:39:00 ] - [ 00:17:42:00 ]
the, the situation of a single Jedi,
[ 00:17:43:00 ] - [ 00:17:45:00 ]
[ 00:17:45:00 ] - [ 00:17:48:00 ]
escorting the president of the United States
[ 00:17:48:00 ] - [ 00:17:52:00 ]
into a slum, a ghetto is absurd.
[ 00:17:52:00 ] - [ 00:17:53:00 ]
[ 00:17:53:00 ] - [ 00:17:55:00 ]
There would be all layers of protection around him.
[ 00:17:55:00 ] - [ 00:17:57:00 ]
So yeah, that didn't stand,
[ 00:17:57:00 ] - [ 00:18:00:00 ]
that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
[ 00:18:00:00 ] - [ 00:18:01:00 ]
[ 00:18:01:00 ] - [ 00:18:02:00 ]
Or, or, or you've got Obi-Wan,
[ 00:18:02:00 ] - [ 00:18:03:00 ]
at least in the background.
[ 00:18:03:00 ] - [ 00:18:04:00 ]
You know what I mean?
[ 00:18:04:00 ] - [ 00:18:05:00 ]
Like, like why is Obi-Wan here?
[ 00:18:05:00 ] - [ 00:18:06:00 ]
He's my master.
[ 00:18:06:00 ] - [ 00:18:07:00 ]
Why is he not like, you know,
[ 00:18:07:00 ] - [ 00:18:08:00 ]
20 yards behind us at least kind of keeping an eye
[ 00:18:08:00 ] - [ 00:18:09:00 ]
on everything, you know?
[ 00:18:09:00 ] - [ 00:18:10:00 ]
[ 00:18:10:00 ] - [ 00:18:12:00 ]
So that's, that,
[ 00:18:12:00 ] - [ 00:18:13:00 ]
that's another one that if I have to choose something
[ 00:18:13:00 ] - [ 00:18:15:00 ]
to nitpick at in this book, which is really, really hard.
[ 00:18:15:00 ] - [ 00:18:17:00 ]
Like, like I said, I love this series.
[ 00:18:17:00 ] - [ 00:18:19:00 ]
Well, if you want a nitpick, I've got a nitpick for you.
[ 00:18:19:00 ] - [ 00:18:22:00 ]
Page 32, when he slices through their guns,
[ 00:18:22:00 ] - [ 00:18:23:00 ]
we're jumping ahead,
[ 00:18:23:00 ] - [ 00:18:25:00 ]
slices through their guns with the lightsaber,
[ 00:18:25:00 ] - [ 00:18:27:00 ]
which is a really cool, cool scene, cool panel.
[ 00:18:27:00 ] - [ 00:18:29:00 ]
[ 00:18:29:00 ] - [ 00:18:30:00 ]
I just, I just feel like I need to point out
[ 00:18:30:00 ] - [ 00:18:31:00 ]
that the guns would still work just fine.
[ 00:18:31:00 ] - [ 00:18:32:00 ]
[ 00:18:32:00 ] - [ 00:18:33:00 ]
[ 00:18:33:00 ] - [ 00:18:34:00 ]
Well, I mean,
[ 00:18:34:00 ] - [ 00:18:35:00 ]
Assuming they would, I don't know.
[ 00:18:35:00 ] - [ 00:18:36:00 ]
I don't know what kind of
[ 00:18:36:00 ] - [ 00:18:37:00 ]
No, it shows them.
[ 00:18:37:00 ] - [ 00:18:38:00 ]
It shows that that's the,
[ 00:18:38:00 ] - [ 00:18:40:00 ]
he's trying to illustrate, you know, the lightsaber,
[ 00:18:40:00 ] - [ 00:18:41:00 ]
the awesomeness of the lightsaber,
[ 00:18:41:00 ] - [ 00:18:43:00 ]
and he cuts cleanly through all the barrels.
[ 00:18:43:00 ] - [ 00:18:47:00 ]
Well, well then they'd still work just fine.
[ 00:18:47:00 ] - [ 00:18:48:00 ]
[ 00:18:48:00 ] - [ 00:18:49:00 ]
Well then they just go to their knives and then
[ 00:18:49:00 ] - [ 00:18:50:00 ]
And then they go to their knives.
[ 00:18:50:00 ] - [ 00:18:52:00 ]
Then they do the kinetic thing, which is really weird.
[ 00:18:52:00 ] - [ 00:18:54:00 ]
Just pull the trigger and kill the Jedi.
[ 00:18:54:00 ] - [ 00:18:55:00 ]
[ 00:18:55:00 ] - [ 00:18:56:00 ]
He's right in the middle.
[ 00:18:56:00 ] - [ 00:18:57:00 ]
I agree with that.
[ 00:18:57:00 ] - [ 00:18:58:00 ]
And then the knife thing is always kind of weird to me.
[ 00:18:58:00 ] - [ 00:19:00:00 ]
[ 00:19:00:00 ] - [ 00:19:01:00 ]
I get moving stuff around a little bit.
[ 00:19:01:00 ] - [ 00:19:03:00 ]
, you know, later on in Episode two or three,
[ 00:19:03:00 ] - [ 00:19:04:00 ]
where he's like got the pair thing
[ 00:19:04:00 ] - [ 00:19:06:00 ]
and he does a weird thing where he cuts in half.
[ 00:19:07:00 ] - [ 00:19:08:00 ]
The magic pair.
[ 00:19:08:00 ] - [ 00:19:10:00 ]
Are we mentioning the magic pair?
[ 00:19:10:00 ] - [ 00:19:12:00 ]
We will mention the magic pair when we get there.
[ 00:19:12:00 ] - [ 00:19:14:00 ]
I promise we will mention the magic pair.
[ 00:19:14:00 ] - [ 00:19:17:00 ]
That is one of the worst scenes of, yeah.
[ 00:19:17:00 ] - [ 00:19:18:00 ]
Okay, we'll mention that when we get there.
[ 00:19:18:00 ] - [ 00:19:19:00 ]
We'll talk about that.
[ 00:19:19:00 ] - [ 00:19:20:00 ]
But I'm just saying like the use of The Force
[ 00:19:20:00 ] - [ 00:19:22:00 ]
like, you know, like you had Maul
in Episode one
[ 00:19:22:00 ] - [ 00:19:24:00 ]
where he throws the thing up against the thing
[ 00:19:24:00 ] - [ 00:19:25:00 ]
to open the doors.
[ 00:19:26:00 ] - [ 00:19:28:00 ]
You have this kind of kinetic use of The Force
[ 00:19:28:00 ] - [ 00:19:31:00 ]
but the grabbing and holding in front of you,
[ 00:19:31:00 ] - [ 00:19:32:00 ]
like he does with the knives is kind of odd
[ 00:19:32:00 ] - [ 00:19:34:00 ]
or different, I should say.
[ 00:19:34:00 ] - [ 00:19:34:00 ]
You don't really see that.
[ 00:19:34:00 ] - [ 00:19:35:00 ]
Like, I can't think of another thing
[ 00:19:35:00 ] - [ 00:19:37:00 ]
where you actually suspend something
[ 00:19:37:00 ] - [ 00:19:40:00 ]
in the air in front of you.
[ 00:19:40:00 ] - [ 00:19:41:00 ]
[ 00:19:41:00 ] - [ 00:19:45:00 ]
I feel like we should step back a little bit
[ 00:19:45:00 ] - [ 00:19:50:00 ]
to introducing the open.
[ 00:19:50:00 ] - [ 00:19:52:00 ]
Oh, yeah, the open and closed.
[ 00:19:52:00 ] - [ 00:19:54:00 ]
Just to keep going with the story.
[ 00:19:54:00 ] - [ 00:19:55:00 ]
Yeah, okay, yes, okay.
[ 00:19:55:00 ] - [ 00:19:57:00 ]
So just 30 second overview.
[ 00:19:57:00 ] - [ 00:19:59:00 ]
and Obi-Wan crash land onto this planet
[ 00:19:59:00 ] - [ 00:20:01:00 ]
with tentacle booster seats.
[ 00:20:02:00 ] - [ 00:20:06:00 ]
They land because of the tentacles, they're safe.
[ 00:20:06:00 ] - [ 00:20:07:00 ]
As soon as they land,
[ 00:20:07:00 ] - [ 00:20:09:00 ]
they have the steampunk ship fly through,
[ 00:20:09:00 ] - [ 00:20:12:00 ]
being chased by two or three other steampunk ships.
[ 00:20:12:00 ] - [ 00:20:15:00 ]
The steampunk ship is gonna fly into the ground
[ 00:20:15:00 ] - [ 00:20:17:00 ]
in just a minute.
[ 00:20:17:00 ] - [ 00:20:19:00 ]
Obi-Wan grabs, pretty much grabs the entire ship,
[ 00:20:19:00 ] - [ 00:20:19:00 ]
holds it for a moment,
[ 00:20:19:00 ] - [ 00:20:21:00 ]
lets them jump off onto the ice.
[ 00:20:21:00 ] - [ 00:20:50:00 ]
And, this is real.
[ 00:20:50:00 ] - [ 00:20:57:00 ]
[ 00:21:20:00 ] - [ 00:21:26:00 ]
[ 00:21:50:00 ] - [ 00:21:56:00 ]
[ 00:22:20:00 ] - [ 00:22:26:00 ]
Star Wars has a history of slaughtering mindless animals.
[ 00:22:26:00 ] - [ 00:22:52:00 ]
The murder ball guys are dead. The snow cave monster guys are dead.
[ 00:22:52:00 ] - [ 00:23:00:00 ]
[ 00:23:00:00 ] - [ 00:23:08:00 ]
[ 00:23:08:00 ] - [ 00:23:24:00 ]
[ 00:23:24:00 ] - [ 00:23:32:00 ]
[ 00:23:32:00 ] - [ 00:23:40:00 ]
[ 00:23:40:00 ] - [ 00:23:48:00 ]
[ 00:23:48:00 ] - [ 00:23:52:00 ]
I think yeah I think last week during the podcast William was hinting at this
[ 00:23:52:00 ] - [ 00:23:59:00 ]
with the lightsaber he was but yeah we did we shot away but but but uh but I
[ 00:23:59:00 ] - [ 00:24:02:00 ]
also yeah I don't know I did that's definitely a part that I have not heard
[ 00:24:02:00 ] - [ 00:24:06:00 ]
so I'm interested to see where this gets to further on the line or what he was
[ 00:24:06:00 ] - [ 00:24:10:00 ]
itching to tell us I should say I wonder what the light blue lightsaber means
[ 00:24:10:00 ] - [ 00:24:16:00 ]
we'll never know what does purple mean it means that it means you wanted a
[ 00:24:16:00 ] - [ 00:24:19:00 ]
contract that said you could have purple lightsaber you wouldn't do it that's
[ 00:24:19:00 ] - [ 00:24:27:00 ]
what it means okay so the cliffhanger if you can call it the cliffhanger is just
[ 00:24:27:00 ] - [ 00:24:33:00 ]
that that wait are you going to the end of three right now well I'm not I'm no
[ 00:24:33:00 ] - [ 00:24:39:00 ]
no no we can't do that we gotta go to we got to go to I'm up to page 40 right
[ 00:24:39:00 ] - [ 00:24:42:00 ]
well you were just mentioning this they go down to the lower levels of course
[ 00:24:42:00 ] - [ 00:24:48:00 ]
oh oh yeah okay all right page 40 the middle bottom panel look at that there's
[ 00:24:48:00 ] - [ 00:24:53:00 ]
's cousin is Gungan
I want to know that guy's story think about this
[ 00:24:53:00 ] - [ 00:24:57:00 ]
oh yeah he does have to have a story he really does you're right yeah the
[ 00:24:57:00 ] - [ 00:25:01:00 ]
live like underwater on on Naboo
yeah you know you're right yeah that is
[ 00:25:01:00 ] - [ 00:25:04:00 ]
pretty good I didn't think about that how was he here he's also got some
[ 00:25:04:00 ] - [ 00:25:09:00 ]
scourge too he's got he's got stuff to tell you know he's not a criminal
[ 00:25:09:00 ] - [ 00:25:12:00 ]
mastermind either I mean it's just not happening
[ 00:25:12:00 ] - [ 00:25:20:00 ]
me me so commit many crimes the the line about your head off give me your wallet
[ 00:25:20:00 ] - [ 00:25:25:00 ]
yeah the line I will say that I did like the the whole entire line though well
[ 00:25:25:00 ] - [ 00:25:28:00 ]
written was the the panel immediately after that where he talks about the best
[ 00:25:28:00 ] - [ 00:25:32:00 ]
valuable resource on some of these levels is sky and it's pretty good he
[ 00:25:32:00 ] - [ 00:25:41:00 ]
points up okay to me that that reads like deeper than it really is but
[ 00:25:41:00 ] - [ 00:25:46:00 ]
that's just me I mean so I so I you know I know but I'm eager to see what you
[ 00:25:46:00 ] - [ 00:26:05:00 ]
think of the next the next two issues they're they're pretty solid
[ 00:26:06:00 ] - [ 00:26:10:00 ]
If this was going to build up, they're a good payoff.
[ 00:26:10:00 ] - [ 00:26:13:00 ]
You keep wanting to jump ahead. So I'm up to page 42.
[ 00:26:13:00 ] - [ 00:26:17:00 ]
Look at the panel that is page 42.
[ 00:26:17:00 ] - [ 00:26:22:00 ]
Let's shove everything that somebody would know into one panel.
[ 00:26:22:00 ] - [ 00:26:26:00 ]
There's a hut, there's the band guy from Cantina.
[ 00:26:26:00 ] - [ 00:26:32:00 ]
There's the Padawan
chick, her species.
[ 00:26:32:00 ] - [ 00:26:36:00 ]
There's a hut with the bra. How good does it get?
[ 00:26:36:00 ] - [ 00:26:40:00 ]
I didn't even notice the bra. How did you not notice the bra thing on the hut?
[ 00:26:40:00 ] - [ 00:26:46:00 ]
I thought it was a very handsome woman, man, hut, with eyelashes.
[ 00:26:46:00 ] - [ 00:26:50:00 ]
And scarred too. What do you call the guy with the tentacle around his neck?
[ 00:26:50:00 ] - [ 00:26:52:00 ]
Because he's associated with the huts.
[ 00:26:52:00 ] - [ 00:26:57:00 ]
Is he a male Twi'lek or a different race?
[ 00:26:57:00 ] - [ 00:27:01:00 ]
[ 00:27:01:00 ] - [ 00:27:04:00 ]
I've seen him right there. It's got the shaved looking horn things.
[ 00:27:04:00 ] - [ 00:27:07:00 ]
But is that the same guy? That's a good question. I don't know.
[ 00:27:07:00 ] - [ 00:27:11:00 ]
Same guy? No. This is meant to be, look at all the things you know.
[ 00:27:11:00 ] - [ 00:27:14:00 ]
I think we need to have homework between these podcasts.
[ 00:27:14:00 ] - [ 00:27:17:00 ]
We actually learn the name of the races instead of saying,
[ 00:27:17:00 ] - [ 00:27:19:00 ]
it's the horn guy with the sawed off horns.
[ 00:27:19:00 ] - [ 00:27:22:00 ]
That violates the spirit of this podcast.
[ 00:27:22:00 ] - [ 00:27:25:00 ]
I should just be reading the comments and telling you what to think.
[ 00:27:25:00 ] - [ 00:27:28:00 ]
I'm going to create some flashcards and I'm going to draw some pictures
[ 00:27:28:00 ] - [ 00:27:31:00 ]
and we're going to memorize the names of the races at least.
[ 00:27:31:00 ] - [ 00:27:34:00 ]
Because the only one we know is, I'm being honest,
[ 00:27:34:00 ] - [ 00:27:37:00 ]
you've got the Twi'lek girl in the front.
[ 00:27:37:00 ] - [ 00:27:39:00 ]
You've got the Twi'lek girl in the front.
[ 00:27:39:00 ] - [ 00:27:41:00 ]
That's an elephant. I can draw a clock.
[ 00:27:41:00 ] - [ 00:27:44:00 ]
But I can't name any of the other ones on here.
[ 00:27:44:00 ] - [ 00:27:47:00 ]
No, and to me, what does that matter?
[ 00:27:47:00 ] - [ 00:27:49:00 ]
That's the guy from the Cantina Band.
[ 00:27:49:00 ] - [ 00:27:52:00 ]
Let's go back two pages too.
[ 00:27:52:00 ] - [ 00:27:55:00 ]
Go back two pages. You've got the Greedo
guy on the top panel.
[ 00:27:55:00 ] - [ 00:27:58:00 ]
guy, yeah. And the Tusk guy.
[ 00:27:58:00 ] - [ 00:28:01:00 ]
Tusk guy and an old guy.
[ 00:28:01:00 ] - [ 00:28:04:00 ]
Is that not the people from Eternal Jedi?
[ 00:28:04:00 ] - [ 00:28:06:00 ]
No, it's not. Star Wars.
[ 00:28:06:00 ] - [ 00:28:09:00 ]
And what is that guy that flies with Lando
in Eternal Jedi?
[ 00:28:09:00 ] - [ 00:28:12:00 ]
The Nguyen Nguyen guy or something?
[ 00:28:12:00 ] - [ 00:28:14:00 ]
Yeah, so we've really got a rough...
[ 00:28:14:00 ] - [ 00:28:16:00 ]
Nub Nub. Is that Nub Nub?
[ 00:28:16:00 ] - [ 00:28:18:00 ]
No, it's not Nub Nub. No, he wouldn't be there.
[ 00:28:18:00 ] - [ 00:28:20:00 ]
But there is the Ink guy right below him.
[ 00:28:20:00 ] - [ 00:28:22:00 ]
None of these are meant to be those characters.
[ 00:28:22:00 ] - [ 00:28:25:00 ]
I understand that, but I'm just saying we should know the races by this point.
[ 00:28:25:00 ] - [ 00:28:27:00 ]
We should be able to say that's a blah blah blah.
[ 00:28:27:00 ] - [ 00:28:30:00 ]
The only ones that we have been able to say are the Hutts, the Jar Jars,
[ 00:28:30:00 ] - [ 00:28:33:00 ]
which is probably not...
[ 00:28:33:00 ] - [ 00:28:35:00 ]
We have our own names for these.
[ 00:28:35:00 ] - [ 00:28:38:00 ]
We need to learn the proper names.
[ 00:28:38:00 ] - [ 00:28:41:00 ]
If you insist.
[ 00:28:41:00 ] - [ 00:28:44:00 ]
I think it makes more sense. There's a Greedo
[ 00:28:44:00 ] - [ 00:28:46:00 ]
[ 00:28:46:00 ] - [ 00:28:49:00 ]
There's Buttface. There's Nub Nub.
[ 00:28:49:00 ] - [ 00:28:52:00 ]
Look at that Hutt with a bra.
[ 00:28:52:00 ] - [ 00:28:54:00 ]
I really wish you had not mentioned that.
[ 00:28:54:00 ] - [ 00:28:56:00 ]
I was fine with just seeing it as a Hutt.
[ 00:28:56:00 ] - [ 00:28:58:00 ]
I know what you're getting on your Christmas card this year.
[ 00:28:58:00 ] - [ 00:29:00:00 ]
I'm telling you right now.
[ 00:29:00:00 ] - [ 00:29:03:00 ]
It's going to be me and the family at Club Cash Car.
[ 00:29:03:00 ] - [ 00:29:06:00 ]
[ 00:29:06:00 ] - [ 00:29:09:00 ]
Alright, so I want to cover when they're underground in that club,
[ 00:29:09:00 ] - [ 00:29:12:00 ]
in the gambling casino place.
[ 00:29:12:00 ] - [ 00:29:18:00 ]
And it's a nice little moment where Palpatine
is starting to corrupt Anakin
[ 00:29:18:00 ] - [ 00:29:24:00 ]
[ 00:29:24:00 ] - [ 00:29:29:00 ]
starting to see or testing how much can I corrupt this guy and use him.
[ 00:29:29:00 ] - [ 00:29:31:00 ]
And his plan is all right there in the open.
[ 00:29:31:00 ] - [ 00:29:33:00 ]
He spells it out.
[ 00:29:33:00 ] - [ 00:29:37:00 ]
The part that I just... it's just not believable is the Senator
[ 00:29:37:00 ] - [ 00:29:39:00 ]
[ 00:29:39:00 ] - [ 00:29:42:00 ]
[ 00:29:42:00 ] - [ 00:29:50:00 ]
And the Senator
doesn't recognize the chancellor from like three feet away.
[ 00:29:50:00 ] - [ 00:29:53:00 ]
And don't give me the Hutt excuse.
[ 00:29:53:00 ] - [ 00:29:54:00 ]
[ 00:29:54:00 ] - [ 00:29:56:00 ]
Give me a break.
[ 00:29:56:00 ] - [ 00:29:59:00 ]
Or, I mean, you would... well, I don't know.
[ 00:29:59:00 ] - [ 00:30:02:00 ]
I was going to say that Anakin
would maybe be somebody also.
[ 00:30:02:00 ] - [ 00:30:04:00 ]
Like when you see them together, you'd be like, whoa, what is going on?
[ 00:30:04:00 ] - [ 00:30:06:00 ]
Like this is a weird coupling here.
[ 00:30:06:00 ] - [ 00:30:10:00 ]
There's no reason he would know every Jedi, Padawan
[ 00:30:10:00 ] - [ 00:30:12:00 ]
But you would know the look of everything.
[ 00:30:12:00 ] - [ 00:30:13:00 ]
But, yeah, okay, fair enough.
[ 00:30:13:00 ] - [ 00:30:15:00 ]
Well, but that's a conceit.
[ 00:30:15:00 ] - [ 00:30:17:00 ]
[ 00:30:17:00 ] - [ 00:30:21:00 ]
The robe with the hood is disguise.
[ 00:30:21:00 ] - [ 00:30:24:00 ]
It's not exclusive to the Jedi.
[ 00:30:24:00 ] - [ 00:30:27:00 ]
Yeah, you're saying that that's the symbolic way to say it.
[ 00:30:27:00 ] - [ 00:30:30:00 ]
You put on the robe, you pull the hood, you're in disguise.
[ 00:30:30:00 ] - [ 00:30:32:00 ]
That's the conceit of Star Wars.
[ 00:30:32:00 ] - [ 00:30:36:00 ]
So the lesson that I learned, I think it's a very valuable lesson, right?
[ 00:30:36:00 ] - [ 00:30:41:00 ]
repairs this, whatever it was, timepiece or something, or the droid brain?
[ 00:30:41:00 ] - [ 00:30:42:00 ]
[ 00:30:42:00 ] - [ 00:30:43:00 ]
[ 00:30:43:00 ] - [ 00:30:49:00 ]
And that's when they decide, the Open decide we have to kidnap him,
[ 00:30:49:00 ] - [ 00:30:53:00 ]
which ends the, you know, issue three on the cliffhanger, which is a great cliffhanger.
[ 00:30:53:00 ] - [ 00:30:55:00 ]
I thought it was fantastic.
[ 00:30:55:00 ] - [ 00:30:59:00 ]
The lesson there is never help anybody.
[ 00:30:59:00 ] - [ 00:31:06:00 ]
And I think there's also at the very beginning of the first issue, whenever they create the
[ 00:31:06:00 ] - [ 00:31:09:00 ]
[ 00:31:36:00 ] - [ 00:31:43:00 ]
So when Anakin
repairs this thing, they're still trying to do good. I get it. I understand what they're trying to accomplish here.
[ 00:31:45:00 ] - [ 00:31:49:00 ]
So anyway, the lesson there that I take to heart is never help anyone.
[ 00:31:50:00 ] - [ 00:31:53:00 ]
Yeah, but you're a Jedi. You have to. Even the people that are not part of the sentence.
[ 00:31:53:00 ] - [ 00:31:58:00 ]
Well, I joke. He was just doing what... It's portrayed as he's doing what he does, and that is he fixes things.
[ 00:31:58:00 ] - [ 00:32:02:00 ]
[ 00:32:02:00 ] - [ 00:32:03:00 ]
For his mother to slay.
[ 00:32:03:00 ] - [ 00:32:04:00 ]
To get smacked across the face with a wrench.
[ 00:32:04:00 ] - [ 00:32:06:00 ]
Yeah. For no good reason.
[ 00:32:06:00 ] - [ 00:32:13:00 ]
So yeah, and it's funny too because out of both the open and the closed, I felt like the closed was the more like kind of evil guy.
[ 00:32:13:00 ] - [ 00:32:15:00 ]
Like I was kind of rooting for the open at the beginning of it. You know what I mean?
[ 00:32:15:00 ] - [ 00:32:16:00 ]
Yes, you're supposed to. Yeah.
[ 00:32:16:00 ] - [ 00:32:19:00 ]
Yeah, and then they're the ones that actually try to take him away.
[ 00:32:20:00 ] - [ 00:32:26:00 ]
Yeah, you can see that. That's the way they set it up. It's not meant to be a shock. It's meant to be a oh no.
[ 00:32:26:00 ] - [ 00:32:31:00 ]
Oh no, oh no. They're going to betray them. Which is good. I think it's very well done.
[ 00:32:31:00 ] - [ 00:32:35:00 ]
Yeah, I wonder if Vader
ever thinks, remember that time I got smacked with that wrench?
[ 00:32:35:00 ] - [ 00:32:37:00 ]
Who? Oh, sorry.
[ 00:32:37:00 ] - [ 00:32:40:00 ]
Sorry, my bad, my bad. I'm sorry. Jumping ahead. My error.
[ 00:32:40:00 ] - [ 00:32:46:00 ]
Or maybe that's when he turns and he's just like, you know what? I'm done with this. I'm done with being good.
[ 00:32:46:00 ] - [ 00:32:51:00 ]
I got smacked in the face with a huge wrench for being helpful. For fixing something.
[ 00:32:51:00 ] - [ 00:32:56:00 ]
Yeah, I don't know. Small little pieces of the puzzle are coming together.
[ 00:32:56:00 ] - [ 00:33:02:00 ]
And that's what I'm really enjoying about this comic series.
[ 00:33:02:00 ] - [ 00:33:10:00 ]
[ 00:33:10:00 ] - [ 00:33:16:00 ]
They say that they're great friends and they have a great friendship and they say that later in Star Wars and Empire
and all that.
[ 00:33:16:00 ] - [ 00:33:20:00 ]
But we never see any of that. We see people who really don't like each other.
[ 00:33:20:00 ] - [ 00:33:27:00 ]
So I was very excited to see some of the backstory fill in those gaps.
[ 00:33:27:00 ] - [ 00:33:32:00 ]
Show me that they had these great adventures together and they were friends.
[ 00:33:32:00 ] - [ 00:33:36:00 ]
And I think we're going to see a lot more of that with The Clone Wars
[ 00:33:36:00 ] - [ 00:33:37:00 ]
[ 00:33:37:00 ] - [ 00:33:40:00 ]
Yeah, so I think that's good. That backstory is good.
[ 00:33:40:00 ] - [ 00:33:45:00 ]
And also, too, there's a point in which, and I think it's the second issue, where he talks about that.
[ 00:33:45:00 ] - [ 00:33:50:00 ]
He's like, yes, we're Master and Apprentice
, we have heated discussions, but it's not like we're fighting with each other.
[ 00:33:50:00 ] - [ 00:33:55:00 ]
[ 00:33:55:00 ] - [ 00:34:01:00 ]
So yeah, I'm excited for the last two issues. I think they're going to show you what a really good comic arc this was.
[ 00:34:01:00 ] - [ 00:34:04:00 ]
And also, too, I think we've got to remember that this was very early.
[ 00:34:04:00 ] - [ 00:34:09:00 ]
This was very early in Newcan. Like, 2016 was a lot.
[ 00:34:09:00 ] - [ 00:34:15:00 ]
They didn't have as much fleshed out, I feel like. So I think Sewell really had to go off on his own a little bit and add some stuff in.
[ 00:34:15:00 ] - [ 00:34:20:00 ]
There's another series that's the Lando
series that's very similar to that. They're a really, really good series.
[ 00:34:20:00 ] - [ 00:34:26:00 ]
So yeah, so we've got two more episodes. We've got two more issues for next week's podcast.
[ 00:34:26:00 ] - [ 00:34:29:00 ]
I do want to say to make sure to stop by our Discord server.
[ 00:34:29:00 ] - [ 00:34:31:00 ]
We had a couple of people join on the Discord server.
[ 00:34:31:00 ] - [ 00:34:40:00 ]
Some of the... when I mentioned last week about waiting outside for tickets to Episode 1 in our Episode 1 podcast,
[ 00:34:40:00 ] - [ 00:34:45:00 ]
I actually found some pictures online from a buddy of mine that was there with me waiting.
[ 00:34:45:00 ] - [ 00:34:51:00 ]
And I posted a bunch of those to the Discord. And then we're always posting just kind of random new stuff and Star Wars stuff, geeky stuff.
[ 00:34:51:00 ] - [ 00:34:56:00 ]
Those photos were really... that's a throwback right there.
[ 00:34:56:00 ] - [ 00:35:01:00 ]
It was, man. I started looking at it. It's funny because I had looked up his name for something else.
[ 00:35:01:00 ] - [ 00:35:04:00 ]
And then I found his Flickr account and I was like, oh yeah, he always had really good photos.
[ 00:35:04:00 ] - [ 00:35:09:00 ]
I was like, wait a minute, I think he's got photos of that night that we went and stayed at the movie theater for tickets.
[ 00:35:09:00 ] - [ 00:35:12:00 ]
And sure enough, he did. He had a bunch of them. And yeah, they're pretty awesome.
[ 00:35:13:00 ] - [ 00:35:18:00 ]
So be sure to join us next week for the last two issues of this comic book arc with Obi-Wan and Anakin
[ 00:35:18:00 ] - [ 00:35:23:00 ]
After that, we're going to be hitting up some Agent Resistance to finish up before we hit Episode 2
[ 00:35:23:00 ] - [ 00:35:28:00 ]
And it's really weird because we've got the movies really quickly in the timeline, but after that, we're going to be hitting Clone Wars
[ 00:35:28:00 ] - [ 00:35:33:00 ]
So be sure to listen in next week when we start to finish up Obi-Wan and Anakin
[ 00:35:35:00 ] - [ 00:35:39:00 ]
