In this episode, an actress loses her mind, Ahsoka gets two-fisted and also hates forks,

and Anakin fights off bounty hunters...again.

We'll discuss the story, a comic, and two short shorts in this edition of the 11 Parsecs Podcast.

And today we are kind of off the beaten path a little bit.

I mean, we've been recording Clone Wars episodes for pretty much the past year almost.

We're working our way through Clone Wars right now.

If you don't know the podcast, we're working our way through every canon material as of about two years ago.

Every canon material that is able to be dated, I guess is the best way to say it.

We're working in chronological order from BBY and Clone Wars is a pretty big timeline.

It's really only two years or two or three years of actual time in the timeline,

but there is tons and tons of TV to consume about it.

So it's kind of nice though because now, starting this week,

we are starting to have some webisodes that came out from Marvel or Disney+ that are...

I don't know. What do you call these things?

I always butcher the words. I'm not going to say visionette,

but it's like a small little five-minute story.

You're taxing me. Is that really the definition of a vignette?

I don't think so.

I don't know. I don't know what else to call it.

Anyways, let's have some vinaigrettes.

Let's pop open our beers and then we can figure out what we're going to call them.

It's almost got like scan lines like it's from a monitor,

but it's a flat 2D drawing.

after the kids have kind of started to migrate up to bed.

So I'm not sure I want to just suck in like a big thing of coffee either

because I think that the caffeine is still there.

If it's part of the brew process, yeah, I think it's still there.

Poor. All right. Forces of Destiny. I honestly, like, kind of remember these episodes. Like, I'm sorry, I shouldn't say that kind of remember these episodes, I kind of remember these things coming out. But I don't I'd like if you would have said for like, whatever we were talking last week, whatever we were talking about, what's going to be on the next podcast or podcast 40.

We looked at the list and forces of Destiny 11 and six were on there. And I had to do a quick lookup of what forces of Destiny was because like, like, it was definitely one of those things that kind of shot by off my radar. Did you do you did you know what they were?

I, I had no idea what any of this was. I had never heard of this before. I didn't know when and we can get to it because I had to go look it up. Like, why does this exist? So I didn't know if it was very recent. If it was 15 years ago, I had no clue. I went in completely cold.

So did you did you see when they came out?

So I can Yeah, we can jump if you want. So I looked it up on Wikipedia, they came out in 2017 2018. And this is really getting to what I was going to talk about because it's, it was created as a series of web shorts. They felt it better appeal to children's watching patterns, basically the The Tick tock effect. They're consuming digital content. It's just meant to be really, really quick. And

were we with TikTok in 2017? I guess it was around. I don't know if it was like, as hype as it got.

Six years ago? Yeah, absolutely. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, okay. Sorry. Maybe it's late to the party.

So, so you're thinking that it's for The Tick tock generation, the the not, I hesitate to say the ADHD type situations, but the ones where it's just like they wanted something super short, so that people could get a story in real quick. You know, it's still it's still move the move the needle for wanting to go to see movies, etc, etc.

Yeah, you you. Right. And this was sort of, I guess it was when when did I need help here? When when did The Force Awakens when did that come out again?

Was definitely pre COVID. I'm going to say I'm going to say 2019.

Hold on a second. Wasn't 2019 Rise of Skywalker? Yes, you're right. Sorry. So it's been around Last Jedi in between Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker.

So they were kind of building on the the the Star Wars media collection at that point. This was not a revival. It was just building what was already there. And it's again, I went in completely cold. So I had no idea. These I looked it up, by the way. These are vignettes.

These are such vignettes. They're such tiny, tiny little stories. They're so short is to the point of I don't what there is no point. It's too short to mean anything. Agreed.

Yeah, it feels very a what? What did you just say? An amuse bouche. Amuse bouche is a English professor. Can you play? Yeah, can you? Okay, a pre English professor. That's French heathen. It's a pre appetizer. It is meant to be this tiny little like like gumdrop sized thing that gives you a hint a preview of the meal ahead.

So if I if I were to say the Costco ladies sampler, it'd be about the same thing. If you ended up eating the whole like box. Yeah, sure. Oh, being amuse amuse bouche amuse bouche. Okay, I like this word. We're learning we're learning so many words tonight. So yeah, so these these things are odd to me. And and very, let's talk about let's talk about the first one, which I think we actually had the wrong number on because I looked at the title. So we may have actually misread it.

I actually watched different ones on this guy. I'm not sure. It was called the season one, episode 10. I think I put on our list season. Sorry, season one, episode 11. This was the the teach you I will. This is the one where? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So so in my notes, I really don't have that many notes on this because again, they're super short. So it's not like you have like super short, but I just said Yoda's kind of a dick.

And he comes in and Anakin is training Ahsoka, and Yoda wants to see Ahsoka fight with two lightsabers, and that's pretty much it.

That's pretty much it, and it's presented as she learns a valuable lesson, but I mean, I don't see what the lesson is.

And here's the thing, why are they, maybe this is covered somewhere else, but again, all I have is this tiny little thing to go on.

Why are they both pushing her to dual wield? What's up with that?

I don't know, and I don't understand too, and this is something that we probably, I don't know if we missed this.

She doesn't want to, she doesn't want to do it.

Yeah, that's my exact point, like she's like saying, this isn't me, but here's the deal, she's got two lightsabers.

So like, what's the story behind the second lightsaber, like did we miss this part? Because this is in the timeline.

There has to be something, there has to be, I don't, well you're right, we were watching according to the timeline.

I don't, I don't know. It's almost like they give the Jedi, Padawans, princes, like a skills test and say, oh, you scored very high on dual wielding, we're going to push you in that direction.

That's how it comes across, like you need to be dual wielding.

I agree with that, and I agree that they have assessed, or based on the tone of this vision, based on the tone of this, that they have both decided that she should use two lightsabers.

I'm just missing the part where she got the second lightsaber. I mean, we watched everything.

Right. That's a very good point. I didn't think of those terms, but you're absolutely correct.

Yeah, it's odd. I'm going to go back and do some research this week about why she has two already, and if that was something that we should have seen, something that we didn't see. I don't know, it's very weird.

I don't like the art style of these. Do you?

Right. No, I can't say I'm a fan, no.

Yeah, it just doesn't like, I don't know, it doesn't like, I feel like Clone Wars, like there's a really, there's a honest to goodness attempt at very good detail.

Except, you know, sometimes it's CGI, they just don't have the time or the animation, they don't have the time to get the detail in there.

But they try, and I feel like they try a lot, and Clone Wars is really good to me.

But these are just kind of like, I wonder if they were just like kind of thrown together really quickly, and made to appease is like something with Alexa.

I don't know, they just don't feel monumental in story. They don't feel like they're drawn very well.

I shouldn't say very well, this is a totally opinionated thing by me. I mean, they're well done. I mean, you know, it takes an artist to do something like this.

But I just don't like it. I just don't happen to like it. I don't know. I just, I don't know.

The funny thing here is that this is going to be like Stockholm Syndrome, right?

Because we've been watching Clone Wars for so friggin' long, and we finally get something else.

And we're like, oh, something new and fresh. I miss Clone Wars.

This is terrible.

Because when I first, I don't think I've ever, maybe I have said this way back, but when I first saw Clone Wars, I thought it was awful.

What is that? Everybody's like angular and stupid. I don't get it.

And it's really grown on me to the point where, again, it's like Stockholm Syndrome. I miss that. I want that. I like that.

Also, too, I think that as we've gone through the seasons of The Clone Wars, the art is actually getting a lot better, too.

And I don't know if that's something, like a technical thing that happened.

You always say that.

I do. I feel like the art has gotten a lot better.

And part of me is just looking at the very first episodes, which, you know, they probably didn't know if they were going to succeed or not.

They had to, you know, they were like a test pilot type situation and stuff like that.

But I honestly feel like the art gets better and better every season.

And it's really good right now. I really enjoy it.

Again, maybe total Stockholm Syndrome.

I mean, it very well may be.

And maybe this is the great antidote to that, is that we're seeing this forces of Destiny.

But I don't know.

All right, let's talk about the second one.

This is season one, episode six, The Impostor Inside.

Again, we start out with negotiation themes.

Yeah, I don't know.

There's really not, there's just not much to say.

They're too short.

So Padme is preparing for a dinner and one of her handmaidens who is helping set up everything is an imposter.

And it's a claudite, which is the ones like, what was her name from the second movie?

Zam Wessel, where they can change form.

So someone has taken over the form of one of Padme's handmaidens.

And they pretty much just try to kill Padme.

And Ahsoka's there.

And she does this really cool thing where she carves out like a hole in the table,

which is kind of neat because we're also kind of watching Ahsoka now.

So it was kind of a neat thing, like a neat catch that there's a bomb at the bottom of the table.

And she does a circle thing and she cuts out the bomb.

Out the window, but yeah, so short, I mean, you know, it's just kind of like, okay, I mean, it was neat.

It's funny how I just now had this sort of thought about the more stories you see, there's always an assassination plot.

I mean, it's like these people, it's like worse than Dune, right?

Because if you remember Dune, it's really ingrained in their society how to avoid getting assassinated.

And what the lengths they have to go to on all, with all, in every way to try and not get, you know, offed by the various people who hate you, or want your power.

Which is a Game of Thrones thing, too. I mean, I think that's...

Yeah, Game of Thrones thing. And here it's, you know, it's the same setup.

It's like, yeah, someone's trying to kill you every other day, and they just kind of go about it, you know, just go about life.

Yeah, and like...

And I get it. I know why. It's a freaking cartoon, I understand, but still.

Well, I'm just saying, too, it's just like, this is probably the third situation in which Padme has saved, I'm sorry, Padme has been saved by Ahsoka from an assassin.

And it's only happened within the past, technically, 22 BBY, so like the past year.

So it's like, okay, well, there's a lot of people after you, Padme. Maybe you shouldn't have dinner parties, you know what I mean?

Like, let's do the COVID lockdown thing a little bit, you know?

Like, you know, I understand that you got to go to work at the Senate and all that kind of stuff, but, you know, maybe we shouldn't be having people over all the time.

I don't know. That's a little bit more meta than this actual episode, kind of, that we need to discuss with this.

But, yeah, okay, sure. Yeah, it was good.

The Kato Parasiti, the Clawdite, the girl that changes, she was actually in the Sphere of Influence episode that we reviewed back in Podcast 39.

That was the one where, remember, all the bounty hunters come up and they, or maybe it was 40, where all the bounty hunters come up and Anakin and Padme are in her office.

And they take over the Senate, or they take over like, you know, 10 or 12 of the senators and cut the power out.

And they hunt down Anakin because he doesn't have his lightsaber, which we'll actually kind of get to in a little bit on the next thing that we're going to review.

But that was the same assassin. The Shapeshifter was the same assassin from that episode.

Just a little bit trivia there. Didn't know if you noticed it. Yeah, I did. I did not. I did not pick up on that.

Again, they're so short. Yeah, they're so short. Like, what are you going to do? I mean, you know.

Overall, glad we have a little bit of a break from Clone Wars with these episodes, but I'm not super impressed.

I mean, nope. I don't know. Let's move on. Shall we move on?

Yeah, let's definitely move on. OK, you want to do let's do the comics next. You good with that?

Well, you mentioned Hostage Crisis. Let's go ahead and, you know, slide right in that.

OK, OK, so so we watched on and actually now that I think about it, I think it was our last podcast.

We watched the hostage crisis episode of Clone Wars where Anakin and Padme are up in Padme's office, the Senate.

Cad Bane and a bunch of other people are trying to rescue Zero the Hutt and end up taking over kind of part of the Senate,

locking down a bunch of the senators and Anakin, who happens to not have his lightsaber because he was messing around with Padme and gave it to Padme.

Padme has his lightsaber and he does not.

He does not. So he is trying to fight against Cad Bane, three or four different henchmen,

and also try to rescue the senators who are surrounded by bombs toward the end of it.

I mean, it's a pretty, pretty gruesome thing. Cad Bane knows what he wants and he knows how to get it.

So he's getting looking for the release of Zero the Hutt. And this is the exact same story.

Exact same story. Oh, let's talk about the book that it came from.

I should probably mention the book that it came from. Sure. Yeah, this is Hostage Crisis by Preddy Schieber,

which is the Stories of Dark and Light. Stories of Dark and Light is a series of stories

all contained in the Stories of Dark and Light book around The Clone Wars.

And I don't know, this may be the first, I believe this is the first story that we've read out of there.

Nope, nope, nope, nope. It's not? Which one did we read previously?

We read, did we not read the story that talks about when they were on the planet with the Gundarks?

You're right. You're right. You're totally right. You're totally right.

And we're going to say the exact same things about this as we did about that story.

We are. It's the same story. It's not breaking any new ground.

I mean, it may be in tiny ways, you know, because it's a novelization of an existing episode

that we already watched.

I think the delivery is supposed to be, yes, it's the retelling of the same story,

but it's supposed to be from maybe a different perspective.

We're in the third person during The Clone Wars episode, whereas here we're from Anakin's side.

It's no different, though. It's no different.

There's the point. It's like, well, that sounds interesting.

It's not, because it's the same story.

And the way it comes across, I didn't think about it in these terms with the prior story,

but this one truly came across like a writing assignment.

It's like, here, watch this, and now write a story that is that.

Yeah.

And what we call that is, you know, it's commissioned.

It was, or a spec piece, or actually I'm not sure what it's called.

Wait, wait, wait, let's go back and make sure.

What we call that, see, here's your English professor coming out.

You got mad at me earlier in the episode about it.

Because it was a French term.

I know, but I'm just saying, you knew the definition of the term.

You had studied language, my friend.

But I do like how you're like, this is what we call in the industry, a spec, or a, what was the other term you used? I'm sorry.

Commissioned piece. I think it's, actually I gotta look up what a spec piece is technically called.

It doesn't matter.

The author was told what to write and paid a fee for it, I'm sure.

And I'm sorry if I'm completely minimizing their work, but that's what it is.

At least that's how it comes across.

And it's not interesting. It's not fulfilling in any way.

I agree with that.

I think that they got a paycheck for it, so I understand their point of it.

Literally, pace for pace, step by step of Anakin, it's the exact same story.

I think that when we had the Doku version of the other story, it added a little bit of the story, I feel like.

It wasn't much, but I feel like there was more added than this.

Tiny around the edges. It was the same sort of thing.

I expected it to add so much more to provide a different perspective to fill in scenes that we didn't see in the episode.

And it does not. At all.

Let's move on. Are you ready to move on?

Yeah, because that one made me mad.

OK, so now we're moving to the Star Wars Adventures IDW series.

This is Star Wars Adventures series by IDW, which is really interesting because it's not Marvel doing Star Wars comics, which is it's not also not Dark Horse.

So it's so for comics.

Dark Horse was the person that did stories of until Star Wars got bought.

Once that happened, then, of course, Marvel takes over and starts making comics.

IDW is a really neat imprinting, and they may be owned by one of those companies.

I'm not sure, but they I think they kind of tailored towards kids because you got the Power Rangers and Transformers and G.I.

Joe, I believe, is under them.

Also, that IDW wing is kind of like more for kid based comics, which is really cool because I enjoy those kind of things.

This is actually the first IDW comics I believe we've read for Star Wars.

It's number 11.

And the way that IDW does at least the Star Wars comics is they have two stories in each issue.

So you have the issue is the end of the previous story.

And then the next kind of story is, you know, 10 to 15 pages of the beginning of the story that will conclude with the next issue.

So it pulls you in a little bit and makes you want to read the next issue.

I was kind of surprised at this.

I mean, I was kind of surprised.

I enjoyed it a little bit.

What did you think?

There was a little more to it in the end than I expected based on primarily based on the art style.

Yeah.

It's got a real Archie and Jughead kind of thing going on.

Yeah.

And so therefore, I didn't think it was going to be my favorite comic.

I mean, it's a good comic.

It's a good comic.

It's got a real Archie and Jughead kind of thing going on.

Yeah.

And so therefore, I didn't think it was going to be all that much.

And it ended up having a little depth to it that I just really was not anticipating.

The Archie, Veronica, Jughead, that's a great comparison because it is that – it's not – I shouldn't say it's that art style because Elsa – I forget the artist's name.

But she has a very distinct style.

I've actually purchased other work from her from another thing, another series.

And she has a very – it's like you feel like you're reading something that may be like a good time, golden age comic.

But then you look at the art style.

It's kind of neat.

There's some small details that you're just kind of like, oh, that's pretty cool.

That's something that I wouldn't have expected in an older comic.

I'm really happy with the story on this one.

I was not expecting much.

And I got fooled a little bit with the dark Kristoff part, like with the play.

And I kind of enjoyed the whole story where Padme and Anakin – because we just watched this in the Hostage Crisis series.

We just watched that they're trying to find a vacation.

They're trying to get away from the Senate, just them, so that they can be just them and they're not worried about people.

And then we see them going on this kind of galactic vacation.

And I like how Padme's character is just like, I cannot believe we're going to see this.

She's going to want us to go see the museum, blah, blah, blah.

And, yeah, you know what's going to happen.

I like all the eyes turning red and all that kind of stuff.

And the museum tries to kill them.

Yeah, that was pretty good. I kind of liked it. I think it's definitely by far the best story that we watched this week.

Oh, yeah, the timing is really good for it because it has no competition. Yes, I enjoyed how it's got a dual layer narrative to it. They are recounting the episode, the events to the council. And as they do so, they're whitewashing it, right?

They're cleaning it up. And yet we can see in the comic itself, you know, what was really going on. So that's that's always nice to have that sort of dual track thing going on there.

You know, I didn't even really think about that as I read it. But yeah, you're right.

Well, he says, you know, I escorted her to her quarters. And I can't say it that way. I escorted her to her quarters. Very clean, very, very matter of fact. And but we see, yeah, what do you think they're doing? I mean, come on.

They're married.

Married. They don't know they're married. But yes.

Yeah. Yeah. I never actually I never actually thought of that aspect of the comic. I enjoyed the characters in the car, at least the character, the what was the main Risha Sonata? Is that was Risha Sonata.

And that is an anagram of as in ashtray. Just so you know.

Wait, what?

Risha Sonata. It's an anagram of as in ashtray. As in ashtray.

I like that. That is a very good John fact.

Did you did you did you work all these out? Like, did you try?

Of course. OK. I mean, you can't see a name like Risha Sonata and not think, I wonder what else that spells.

I enjoyed the end of the end of the comic where it shows like the inside of they bust down a wall trying to escape all these, you know, mechanic droids that are trying to kill him.

And they enter what looks like this, like Grand Palatial Imperial meeting room.

And the room just looked a little too big. I don't know. It just looked very weird. It's like I'm expecting all these like armies of stormtroopers in there or something.

It's just a very big room. But I mean, I guess maybe it fits with the story with Risha.

But they go through. Did you notice they go through because they're going through all these like replica like scenes?

Yep. You know, one of them is the diner with. Why would she have that?

Why would she have some dude's diner? I can't remember. What was the guy's name? Dexter Jester.

Yeah. Dexter is a stupid name. Why would she have some rando diner from Coruscant?

Why would she have that? We know why. We know why. It's the Waffle House of the Universe, John. They're everywhere.

I see. I can accept that explanation. Still weird, but OK, fine.

A little odd, but yeah, I agree.

And then later, I mean, with the gas and he puts on the cape and the mask.

Yeah. Anakin does. I mean, really? Really? We're going there?

It's it's OK, so I know it's it's in fun, but holy crap, this little two on the nose.

It's a kid's comic. Number one. I mean, honestly, like this is like geared more toward kids than the regular comics.

So it's gassing people. It's it's it's pretty heavy on that.

And then also, too, they're pretty heavy on the propaganda points in this thing, too.

Like, I was kind of amazed. I was like, they're like, do kids really?

I mean, kids understand what propaganda is, but I'm not sure that they like would understand that she Risha is like this person working exactly for the Imperials trying to.

Yeah, I don't know. It was a very it's not. That's where it got.

That's where it got. I actually grew to respect it.

She's delusional. Yeah, totally agree.

And they do the point where I actually feel sorry for her, because up to that point, you're like, you know, screw her.

She's a stupid idiot. But then you realize, no, she she believes this is like a play, but real.

Like she's going to win because that's what she does in plays.

And she's the best. And yeah, in a play.

She's the best actor. She's she's the story says she wins.

And so she's going to win. Yeah.

And that's just she has a show called The Apprentice and it's it's amazing.

And it's, you know, she. No, I don't know.

It's it's it definitely had a message. I think the message gets through to adults.

I'm not sure it's going to get through to the audience of the kids, but maybe I'm trust actors and I'm honest actors.

I'm estimating I'm underestimating the power of of of the story.

But it was good. It was it was even on a week where we actually had other comics that might be decent.

It would hold up, in my opinion.

I know I surprisingly enjoy. I agree.

It's batting in a terrible batting order and it's going to shine no matter what.

But I thought it was pretty good. Yeah.

They said there was a lot of reshoots due to something, and I don't know what the something was.

So, I don't know if the story got mangled at that part of trying to rush through reshoots,

and you've got these huge A-list actors that have other jobs, you know, doing other things,

and you only have X number of days or weeks to get this thing right,

but they didn't stick the landing.

I mean, it was just like, what?

They didn't stick the landing, yeah.

And people early on were complaining about, you know, this is boring.

But, see, I'm okay with that.

It can be a slow burn.

I was fine with that, yeah.

It can have a long ramp to really set the pieces to get the action going.

I am fine with that.

I can, well, for the most part, I can grant a show that luxury,

but then to just have it be a ski jump where at the end it's just, whee, done.

That's, no.

That's inappropriate pacing.

A lot of people were complaining of the fact that she is now probably one of the most powerful mutants.

Yeah.

In the Marvel Universe.

And I'm kind of like, okay, did they do this because they need somebody for the, you know,

the Marvels to battle or Captain Marvel to battle?

Like, I don't know, man.

It's just, it's getting to be too much for me.

I'm just kind of like, hey, Sunday afternoon movie, I'll go watch it.

But not, I'm not checking out YouTube to see all the details about it afterwards.

You know what I mean?

It's just kind of like, oh, okay.

And that's a good indicator.

So they take great pains at various points in the series to explain away why, you know,

you have this world-threatening thing and the Avengers don't come in.

Yeah. Agreed.

And early on in the whole MCU, that made sense.

Because you didn't have a lot of pieces on the board.

Now there's so many pieces on the board, just don't even bother.

Just don't insult me.

I understand that this is this TV show.

And if the Avengers could swoop into everything and fix it, that would get really boring.

of a niche kind of thing i was gonna say out of all the Apple TV shows you've watched would that

after watching i will say that after watching the first two episodes i'm even more excited

am evaluating any series coming out of Disney+ Plus i used to kind of compare it against Mandalorian

season one now i actually kind of compare it to and or season one there was a a a toll on Twitter

by you know whoever uh that said you know what is the best star wars series and it was Mandalorian

and or i can't remember the other two and and or one handily yeah and and or one was amazing and

konobi was good konobi wasn't bad by any means i enjoy konobi um not in the same not even in the

same galaxy as and or they are actually but but they and or is just and again it's the same

I've been preaching and preaching about Star Wars. Get away from the Skywalkers, man.

Get away from the Skywalkers. Tell a grounded story. Tell something that, you know,

makes sense to people, that people can relate to.

Yeah, I watched Solo probably about a month, a month and a half ago, and I was like, man,

this movie, it's not bad. It's not, I mean, like, whenever I watched it the first time,

I was like, okay, okay, you know, good movie, but, you know, whatever. It gets better with age,

because it's just a little bit different than what you're expecting for Star Wars.

Rogue One is, it's almost at the top of my list now. I mean, it's just like,

But oh my God, I just realized you have not seen the musical episode of Strange New Worlds.

I've heard so much about it.

And I personally am not a huge musicals person, but I'm open to interpretations like that.

And I like that kind of stuff.

So I'm pretty positive that I'll enjoy it.

I was so prepared to hate that episode.

It's a musical episode, but it is done truly so.

I'm trying to think what other episodes of TV I've seen that I classify as out of their kind of out of their normalcy and are presenting as a musical.

And honestly, the only one that comes to mind is like kind of the Montreal episode of Simpsons.

Like, like, what else should have done this?

I tend to think of really showing my age or moonlighting.

Moonlighting, talk about a brilliant show.

If you're that type of show, and that's the thing is Stranger Worlds is not Community. Stranger Worlds is not.

You know, and for them to pull this off. Tongue in cheek. I mean, it is it is still a musical. Come on. It's not it's not. They're not treating it ultra seriously.

But it works in in universe. It works in the context of the story. And that was to me the really satisfying bit.

I loved it. I thought it was a fantastically charming movie and I'm I don't think is doing well or did well.

And that makes me sad because that could have been the start of a neat little, you know, I'm not looking for an epic cinematic universe, just a neat little little franchise.

That would have been fun. Yeah.

Farron. So so whatever we talked about last time, I remember I think it was like thirty six or thirty seven.

We talked about how I was excited about it coming out and then I talked about having gone and seen it.

But you hadn't seen it yet.

And I kept saying, you need to go see it.

And we didn't talk.

You were correct.

Yeah. And it as for Forgotten Realms.

So it's set in the Forgotten Realms universe.

And I would absolutely love to see a Marvel sized Forgotten Realms, you know, take on everything.

But like you said, like I for some reason, I thought that it did fairly well.

We had a discussion, I think, in our discord where I was completely proven wrong that it did not make as much money as they were hoping.

And I wonder if all that's in jeopardy because that stinks, man.

That was a great movie.

It was perfect.

It was it struck the right tone.

It was not camp.

It was not stupidly serious.

It it really walked that line so well.

And it's hard to do that.

They spent a good amount of money on the CGI and special effects to where they weren't overdone, but they were good.

They were good.

And you had great actors, great actresses.

I felt I felt like all the actors, but for the most part, all the actors and actresses fit their characters pretty well.

And this the story had a pretty good little like kind of thieving mystery thing to it.

Like, I don't know.

I thought it was really good, really well done.

The whole use of like the magic to do like the portals and all that, like it was it was it was good.

It was good.

I'm disappointed that and actually, I think it was you that talked about how like, you know, you kind of expect the movie to make X number of times of what you put into it.

And it did twice the budget.

Yeah, yeah.

And just to break even.

Yeah, just to break even just for spending for marketing reasons and all that kind of stuff.

And I was bummed, man, because it was good.

I could I would absolutely fully support being behind some type of like Forgotten Realms, like just series of movies.

And you're right.

It doesn't have to be Marvel level, but just something to where like you can at least follow some of the characters and be like, hey, I knew that guy from the other one.

Kind of a bummer. A very big bummer, I will say.

So you have to just love how you can see Chris Pine is, he's a really good comedic actor.

He is, he really is.

And that's not where like his career kind of started, but he's got the chops. I mean, it's really something.

It's the timing.

It's all about the timing.

It all comes down to the timing. And like, yeah, if you've got it, you got it. And he does. He really like, it was really, really good. Like he was very on point. It was good.

Yeah, the script was good. You gotta have a good script to begin with. And then also to like, there needs to be like things that kids that play, or adults now that play Dungeons and Dragons in their teenage years that they're like, oh, yeah, I remember that, like stuff, but don't overdo it.

And I don't think that they overdid it in that film. Like, I think it was very good. Like, you're like, oh, yeah, that's pretty cool. Like, it's not, it's not forced in your face, almost, you know what I mean?

Like, I don't know.

It's not too in the weeds. Yeah, it's not too, it's accessible, I think is the term that we would tend to use.

And then what was the, what was the whole, oh, the Eagles name that they were waiting on at the beginning of the movie, whenever they're in the prison to get probation?

Like just these small, small jokes like that were just wonderful.

They're just wonder, like, they're just, they're really cheeky, like witty kind of things like that.

I was like, oh, this is this is really well written, really good movie, really good movie.

And like I said, you know, the casting was great.

I don't know. Yeah, I bummed.

I bummed we're not going to see more of that.

And maybe, maybe I'm wrong.

We'll see. But, you know, we'll see.

I think it's unlikely at this point, but we'll see.

Yeah, with the strike and everything, I'm sure you're probably right.

But still, it was good while we had it.

It was much better than the Dragon, the last Dragonlance movie.

That was just abysmal.

So Dragonlance is a different kingdom.

I don't know if you know Dungeons and Dragons and that whole kind of system.

Do not. OK, so you have Dungeons and Dragons, which is kind of the system in which these games are from.

So what usually the usually the kind of the pathway for these things to, like, become other things was that you have a game system.

So there's Forgotten Realms, which is this whole world that was built by Gary Gygax and a bunch of other people.

And then you have like Dragonlance, which is this whole world built by Williams and all these other people.

And then you have just all these different little like world spell jammer.

There's a whole bunch of different worlds.

And what happens is you choose the world you want to play in.

People go in, they come up with their own adventures.

And then back a long time ago, you would publish the adventures as like these kind of things that you could take your Dungeons and Dragons crew on.

They don't know, like part of some bigger story.

And that bigger story was usually books.

I mean, it usually ended up being like, you know, they had I cannot imagine how many paperback novels Forgotten Realms has at this point with Dread Steward.

And then like there's just so like probably like over two or three hundred, I would suspect.

But each of those little stories are like very, very valuable.

I mean, especially in today's market where you can see, you know, Marvel bought all these old comic book stories and something Star Wars where they have all these little small stories.

And then you selectively choose which ones you want to bring into your canon, which is exactly what Star Wars has done with Legends.

I mean, Legends had, you know, tons and tons of books for Under Legends, Dark Horse, Under Legends for Star Wars.

And they're slowly grabbing like Thrawn and pulling that story into the canon.

So now it's official, you know, and that whole officialness is getting on screen, getting on, you know, and Dungeons and Dragons honestly could do that with any of their game systems.

They did have a movie, maybe about 20 years ago, where it was a Dungeons and Dragons movie and it was pretty bad.

It was it was again, never watched it.

But yeah, that's all I heard was it was atrocious.

I don't feel like it was marketed that much. Maybe that's the key to it, is that it was surprisingly good.

Well, it's the track record, the movie you're talking about, and then, I don't think I know about an animated one.

Wasn't, um, was it Warcraft?

Oh, that one. I still haven't seen that.

Yeah.

I don't think it was all that great, um, from what I heard.

I think if I remember right, that Warcraft movie was, um, like a CGI, real-life, like, mashup kind of thing.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So, when I first saw this one, I wrote it off. It was like, eh, I don't care.

And then, I heard wonderful, wonderful things about it.

When you sent me that article, I was, I was, like, bummed, I think, for, like, a couple hours.

Because I was like, I thought this did really well.

Um, so next week, uh, we're supposed to be doing, like, a, like, I think there's, like, four Forces of Destiny that are on the line.

But I, I say we do, um, there's a Forces of Destiny comic, which, uh, we'll have.

And then let's do, uh, one episode of Forces of Destiny.

It looks like it's Season 2, Episode 2.

Which, they seem to jump around on their timelines a little bit, so I'm not sure why.

Um, and then we'll grab, uh, let's see, Clone Wars Season 3, Episode 10.

That will give us a little bit of variety to talk about, I think, on, uh, 42.
