The Sarlacc Pit, also known simply as the Sarlacc, is a fictional creature and an infamous location in the Star Wars universe. It first made its appearance in "Return of the Jedi" as a gigantic, tentacled creature that lives inside a sandy pit on the desert planet of Tatooine. The Sarlacc is renowned for its slow digestion process; it devours its victims and then dissolves them over a thousand years.
George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, described the Sarlacc as a cross between a bear trap and a giant squid. It consists of a bulbous body, a massive mouth with sharp teeth, and numerous tentacles that it uses to capture its prey. An individual trapped in its clutches is gradually pulled towards the Sarlacc's gaping mouth.
The most important Sarlacc in Star Wars lore is situated in the Great Pit of Carkoon, under the control of the fearsome crime lord Jabba the Hutt. It plays a crucial role in one of the original trilogy's key sequences, where it consumes Boba Fett, although he later escapes in other Star Wars media.
