Jedi Temple Guard

The Jedi Temple Guards, residing within the Coruscant Jedi Temple, were an ancient and esteemed organization established by the Jedi Order. They were identifiable by their dual-phase yellow lightsaber pikes and fully concealed anonymity-inducing golden helmets and robes, reflecting their commitment to their roles.

Jedi Temple Guards were tasked with maintaining peace and order within the precincts of the Jedi Temple. They were not positioned for their strength in combat, but for their enduring commitment to the Jedi Code, representing ultimate detachment where public identity was concerned. With frequent rotation of Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters to provide temple security services, becoming a Guard was neither a promotion nor demotion.

The temple guards were highly trained in the Soresu and Shien forms of lightsaber combat. Donning the uniform and taking the lightsaber pike of a Guard symbolises their vow to protect the Jedi Temple and its occupants from harm, rendering the Temple laudably secure. Their distinctive yellow-bladed lightsaber pikes were double-bladed weapons with longer hilt, primarily used defensively.

Throughout the Galactic Republic's era, the Guards played crucial roles in defending the Temple from threats. They faced numerous trials, from internal insurrections such as the attack by corrupted Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (later known as Darth Vader), to external invasions including the Battle of Coruscant.

However, with Emperor Palpatine's rise to power and the execution of Order 66 — a command that forced all Clone Troopers to turn against the Jedi — the Jedi Temple was raided and the Guards were presumably killed. This marked the end of the Jedi Temple Guards, along with the Jedi Order itself. Yet, some of the Temple Guard's traditions lived on, inherited by those who sought to honor the Jedi's legacy in the years following the end of the Galactic Empire's reign.

Despite their ultimate demise, the Jedi Temple Guards still symbolize the enduring principles central to Jedi philosophy: commitment to peace, safeguarding of sacred knowledge, and maintaining order. Their legacy, both tragic and inspiring, remains a potent symbol of the noble ideals and bitter betrayals that marked the era of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order.
