Dathomirian

Species

Dathomirians were a subspecies of Zabrak, a near-human species from the planet of Iridonia. The Dathomirians, however, as their name suggests, originated from the planet Dathomir. The planet Dathomir was dominated by an order of force-sensitive witches known as the Nightsisters, and with time, the term Dathomirian became synonymous with the members of this coven.

Dathomirians were recognizable by their prominent cranial horns, similar to their Zabrak relatives, and their tattoos. Both male and female Dathomirians had these traits, though the males, often referred to as Nightbrothers, usually had more extensive tattooing than the females. Also, males typically had a more muscular build and were physically more robust than females due to the harsh physical training they were put through by the Nightsisters.

The culture of the Dathomirians was heavily influenced by the tribal structure of the Nightsisters, with a matriarchal society where the women held the ruling power. The males, despite their physical strength, were considered subservient and were used for manual labor and battle. All Dathomirians, however, were adept at using The Force, albeit in a crude and often destructive way, as their teachings revolved around manipulation of the Dark Side. This is quite evident from the infamous Nightsister magicks practiced by their women.

The most well-known Dathomirian was the Sith Lord Darth Maul. Born on Dathomir to a Nightsister mother, Maul was taken by Darth Sidious at a young age to be trained in the ways of the Sith. Maul's relentless pursuit for revenge against those who wronged him, along with his survival skills, make him one of the most iconic Star Wars villains. He embodies the aggressive and relentless nature of Dathomirians, making the most of his physical prowess and dark side-focused Force abilities.

Dathomirians are a fierce and mystical subspecies of the Zabrak race. From their prominent tattoos and physical prowess to their unique relationship with the Force, Dathomirians are a fascinating addition to the Star Wars universe. Their multi-dimensional traits and intriguing backstory continue to be explored extensively in the Star Wars canon, drawing fans to their compelling and dark tales.
