Tusken Raider

Species

The Tusken Raiders, also referred to as Sand People or simply Tuskens, are a culture of nomadic, primitive beings who hail from the desert planet of Tatooine, the birthplace of Anakin Skywalker (later known as Darth Vader) in the Star Wars universe. They are known for their aggressiveness, hostility towards outsiders, survival skills, and their iconic, shroud-like clothing which protects them from Tatooine's harsh environment. The Tuskens communicate using a complicated sign language, physical gestures, and unique vocalizations.

Besides, Tuskens Raiders carry a traditional weapon, known as "Gaderffii" or "Tusken Cycler", and use banthas, a local creature as their means of transportation. Their strict traditions, like the symbolic passage of adulthood through hunting a Krayt Dragon's pearl, and the custom of not removing their mask in public, have drawn interest in fans and scholars alike of the Star Wars lore. Though they are mostly depicted as antagonists in the series, Tuskens' deep respect for their heritage and strong communal bonds provide an alternative perspective on their character.
