The Anomid are a species from the Star Wars universe, originally hailing from the Yablari system, a star system located in the outer rim territories of the galaxy. They are known for their unique characteristic of having no vocal cords. As a result, they're unable to speak naturally like many other species, but they have three fingers on each hand which are used for intricate sign language, allowing them to communicate effectively. This characteristic is probably one of the defining aspects of the Anomids.
However, many Anomids undergo surgery in order to be able to communicate more universally. This has had a mixed response within their society. There are traditionalist Anomids who oppose this surgery and use cybernetic voice boxes instead, seeing vocal speech as a deviation from their natural state. Anomids are often seen as simple, due to their lack of speech, but they have shown innovation and great intelligence within their society.
The Anomids are also known to be technologically advanced. Their isolation in the far reaches of the galaxy has not hindered their ability to advance in this respect. More than that, their inability to verbally communicate has led them to focus extensively on the development of various fields, including technology. They are known for their expertise in engineering and droid technology, and their products are highly sought after in the galaxy.
In terms of physical attributes, Anomids are of human height with bluish skin, an elongated cranium, and eye-catching silver, pupil-less eyes. They also possess a lifespan longer than humans. In Star Wars Legends, they are described as one of the oldest space-faring civilizations, even pre-dating the formation of the Galactic Republic.
