Rose Tico

Rose Tico is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran. She is introduced in the 2017 film "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" as a maintenance worker for the Resistance, an organization opposing the First Order. Her sister, Paige Tico, is a gunner who perishes during a battle, causing Rose to vow to honor her sister by fighting for their shared cause.

Rose comes from the impoverished mining world of Hays Minor, where she and her sister were forced to watch as the First Order exploited their planet's resources, leaving it desolate and its people struggling. This hardship on her home inspires her strong sense of justice and determination to resist the First Order's tyranny.

During "The Last Jedi", Rose meets Finn, portrayed by John Boyega, and becomes a pivotal ally in his mission to disable the First Order's tracking device. Their adventure takes them to Canto Bight, a lavish casino town, where they witness the disparity between the wealthy elites benefitting from the war and the poor, oppressed working class. This deepens Rose's resolve and provides a social commentary subplot within the film.

Rose's character received further development in the 2019 film "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", where she was shown to have risen to the rank of Lieutenant in the Resistance. However, her role was significantly reduced due to the film's more sprawling narrative.
