Mon Calamari

The Mon Calamari, also known as Mon Cala, are an aquatic species in the Star Wars universe. They were considered to be one of the most beautiful species due to their unique physiology and their ability to integrate organic shapes and aesthetics into their technology. Their notable appearances include Admiral Ackbar in the original Star Wars Trilogy and the new films, who famously alerted his comrades, “It’s a trap!” indicating the presence of an enemy ambush.

They are known to have been originated from the watery world of Dac, which consists of oceans, reefs and islands. Their unique physiology includes high domed heads, webbed hands and large, goggle-like eyes. The Mon Calamari are able to live in both land and water and are known to have excellent navigational skills. Their skin color ranges from mottled orange to salmon and is believed to present maturation or mood changes.

Mon Calamari society is divided into two species, the Mon Calamari and the Quarren, sharing the same homeworld. The Mon Calamari inhabit the ocean surfaces and the Quarren, also known as “Squid Heads”, live the ocean depths. Despite having civil wars and discord between them, they sign a peace treaty for mutual survival after The Clone Wars.

Known for their shipbuilding skills, Mon Calamari have been able to construct starships that are unique and organic compared to others in the Star Wars universe. They built powerful capital ships such as the MC80 Star Cruisers, which play a pivotal role in the Battle of Endor. Their advanced technology coupled with a strong sense of Community made them invaluable members of the Rebel Alliance.
