Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC is an American movie and television production company founded by filmmaker George Lucas in 1971. Originally based in San Rafael, California, Lucasfilm has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney+ Company since 2012. The headquarters of Lucasfilm is now situated at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco, California.

Lucasfilm is best known for creating the legendary Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. The company has become an iconic force within the movie industry, achieving remarkable success not only through the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films but also through other notable movies such as American Graffiti and Labyrinth. In addition to its renowned film productions, Lucasfilm encompasses a range of divisions including Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Skywalker Sound, Lucasfilm Animation, and ILMxLab.

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is the visual effects department of Lucasfilm, responsible for revolutionizing the art of computer-generated imagery (CGI). Founded by George Lucas in 1975, ILM was initially created with the purpose of generating visual effects for the original Star Wars film. In 2012, The Walt Disney Company purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, ushering in a new era for the company. This acquisition led to the production of several new Star Wars films, including the sequel trilogy, anthology films, and various series on Disney's streaming platform, Disney+.
