Inferno Squad

Books

The Inferno Squad is a special forces unit of the Galactic Empire within the Star Wars franchise. Unveiled in "Star Wars Battlefront II," this squad plays a crucial role within the Empire’s military framework and is also the central focus of the novel "Battlefront II: Inferno Squad" by Christie Golden. The squad was set up after the destruction of the first Death Star, a significant setback for the Empire, to execute high-risk black operations and to thwart the Rebel Alliance.

The key members of the Inferno Squad are Iden Versio, Del Meeko, Gideon Hask, and Seyn Marana. Iden Versio, an Admiral's daughter and a TIE Fighter pilot, is chosen for her exceptional skills and resilience to lead the team. Del Meeko, a proficient engineer and heavy weapons specialist, brings tactical pragmatism to the squad. Gideon Hask, a loyal soldier, is known for his dedication to the Empire, and Seyn Marana possesses genius-level intelligence and language skills which enable her to be a proficient spy.

The team is purposely small for the sake of efficiency and covert operations. They are given access to the best equipment and resources by the Empire. Each member of the team has their unique skill set, making the squad a valuable instrument of the Empire in its fight against the Rebel successfully.

Their first mission, as highlighted in Golden’s novel, is to infiltrate a remnant group of the Partisans, known as the Dreamers, to gather intelligence and eliminate them. This group is a Rebellion affiliate that employed extreme measures in its fight against the Empire. The Inferno Squad successfully completes the operation, further cementing the squad's reputation within the Empire.

However, as the war progresses, battle lines blur, and loyalties shift. Iden and Del defect to the Rebel Alliance after witnessing the Empire's disregard for its own citizens during the destruction of Vardos. Gideon remains loyal to the Empire, leading to bitter confrontations later.

As intriguing as their storyline is, the Inferno Squad not only adds depth to the narratives within the Star Wars saga but also explores the moral complexities of war and loyalty. Their tale provides an empathetic insight into the human individuals operating with the Galactic Empire, further enriching the franchise's expansive universe.
