In this episode, we review a story that we've reviewed before.

We say hello to Bane the Badass, again.

And prove that Jedi are generals, again.

We'll discuss Clone Wars Episode 2-1 and stories of Light and Dark in this edition of the 11 Parsecs Podcast.

And today we are reviewing Season 2. We're in the Season 2 of The Clone Wars. I'm excited about this.

Woo! Fanfare.

Yeah, it's a fanfare. Yeah, cheers. Let's add some clapping in there.

Because we know we're in the doldrums of The Clone Wars and we know we're going to be watching these for a while.

But the cool thing about this is we're starting to inter... inter... inter... inter... what's the word I'm looking for?

Intersperse, maybe? Some different stories and stuff like that.

So today we're actually reviewing a story called Dooku Captured from Star Wars, Clone Wars...

Sorry, The Clone Wars Tales of Light and Dark, I believe is the name of the book.

So we've got one story that fits in chronologically, maybe we'll talk about that in a little bit,

with what's going on in 22 BBY, where we're at right now.

Again, really quickly, just if you haven't listened to the podcast before,

we are two normal guys going through absolutely all of the Disney+ new canon in chronological order.

So right now we are at Season 2 of The Clone Wars and we watched Episode 1 for this podcast

and also read a story out of Light and Dark, so should be pretty good.

First, I was going to ask where you want to start off, Jon, but first off I know exactly where you want to start.

So tonight I'm enjoying... it's from Parrish, we've had some Parrish lately.

Yeah, Parrish, I like Parrish.

This is Brain Cake.

Brain Cake?

Brain Cake. And there's some kind of story to this, but I've forgotten what the story is.

It's supposed to be a sought-after beer, Brain Cake, I don't know why, but we're going to find out.

How hard was it to acquire?

It was in the store, I picked it up.

Okay, so not very hard.

I had to hand over money for this thing.

Oh my gosh, did you have to do your own, like, did you actually scan it yourself and put it in your own bag?

No, they're not that sophisticated.

Okay, okay.

Corner store.

Fair enough, fair enough.

Parrish is Louisiana?

Yes.

Okay, and then Brain Cake, is this a tall boy, is this a...

Yep, it's a tall boy.

Okay, is it a four-pack tall boy?

I'm certain it was, and I'm going to guess somewhere in the $15 to $18 range.

Yeah, okay, that's what I was going to say. So this is craft beer extraordinaire.

This is like, we know you're going to like this, so we're pricing it a little bit higher.

You've got to go to a little bit of a specialty store to get it, that kind of thing.

Okay, Brain Cake.

So I'm intrigued by the Brain Cake. I like the name.

I like the name, too.

Yeah, that's a pretty good name. Do you have any type of IPA hops?

Oh, it's an IPA. I don't remember if it is a double... Oh, it is a double. It's a double IPA.

Okay, all right, cool. Tall boy double, I like it.

Not super high, not super high. 8.4%.

Not super high? Are you kidding me? 8.4%?

That's not super high. It's 8.4%. What is that? That's like middle of the road.

Oh my gosh, 8.4%? That's not high. That's nothing.

So I went to a beer fest yesterday, and it was awesome.

I was browsing around, and I went through a bunch of them.

There was about 15 breweries there. This was over at Cherry Street.

Cherry Street Spring Beer Fest, really fun beer fest if you're ever in the Atlanta area.

Worth driving to. It's awesome. It was over at Halcyon.

They had about 15 breweries there, lots of good beer, lots of good beer.

I think I put a ton of stuff on my untapped.

I started walking around looking at beers. I'm like, okay, generally IPA.

Basically, everybody came with three brews.

One was an IPA, the standard 7% to 8%.

One was a cool, weird brew that maybe they were the only ones that they did.

Then another one was a lager, a pilsner, or something like that, generally 4% to 5%.

I went to this one place, and they had three menu items.

I wish I would have remembered to jot down the name of the brewery.

It was here in Atlanta, but I can't remember who it was.

It was 13.4%, 12.7%, and 11.9%.

I was like, these are my people. These guys are just like...

You have to go back now and find out who that was.

I do. I need to review my notes on the untapped.

13% is insane.

Yes, it was. It was 13.4% too. It was a heavy, heavy brew.

I had one or two of them. One of them was super hoppy.

I think I had the 13%. It was super, super hoppy.

When you're at a beer fest, they give you these little cups.

You're filling up the little cups, and you're just kind of sipping some.

My wife went through like three and I think she went through like three while I just kind of sip this little cup because it was

Like, you know, just like it's a hot day. I don't know that I need to be down at 30 percenters all day

But um, but it was fun. Yeah, I need to find out for the next podcast

I will find out what the brewery was and I will find out the exact beer that actually drank because yes, please do

It was really good. I have to give him credit. It was very good for 13

I'm drinking a so this is one of my favorite breweries there up in Gainesville

I've been up to the brewery a couple of times because that's right next to my parents house. It's left nut brewing and

You've never heard of left over I don't know maybe I have yeah, they're up in Gainesville

You probably have you probably at least seen them on the shelves

yes, they have an awesome brewery it's like this old converted warehouse kind of thing and

Fridays Thursdays and Fridays, I think are pretty packed up there. It's pretty fun

It's cool brewery if you ever get into Gainesville Gainesville is about an hour north of Atlanta and I'm drinking a hooch shooting

Which is awesome because I don't you know, most listeners probably won't know but

the river between Alabama and Georgia is called the Chattahoochee and when you shoot the hooch you just kind of float down the river and

Drink beer and all that kind of good stuff. But so you said hooch

Shooting that's hard to say because what I heard was hooch shooting and I was trying to figure out. Oh, I'm sorry

Who's shooting? Yeah, who hooch?

Shoot. Yeah. No, I understand. I have context for that. No problem. Yeah. Yeah, it's got this girl

She's like hands in the air going on thing. It's pretty good. I bet she doesn't care

She doesn't care and the thing is is that like if you're like in the north and see who shooting and see this girl

Just like hold her hands. You're probably like what is this?

What hooch what?

No, I don't know if when you say left nut distribution up in you know, Connecticut, let's let's give them hope

Let's give them. I hope that they but I think that most people maybe look at hooch is a different type of alcohol. Oh

I'm I'm I'm certain there's no double or triple meaning

Involved in this name or quadruple at this point. I mean this is yes. Yeah, that's pretty good

That's just kind of chillin watch it or and he's got nobody cares about the guy

This sounds like an amazing label, yeah, I am

Originating the Blue Ridge Mountains and meandering down Georgia the 430 mile Chattahoochee River got its name from the native Muskogee words

Chateau which means rocks and hoochie marked or painted

Describing the many colorful granite outcroppings along the river on these hot hazy, Georgia summers the local

locals the locals the locals engage in a popular activity of floating down the Chattahoochee and it's in

small rafts and inner tubes locally dubbed as shooting the hooch

So there you go fascinating learning something new from this podcast besides Clone Wars details

Yeah, we will also later in some minor degree cover Star Wars

Maybe we'll see we'll see we get there. All right, so all right, we got we got two episodes

We got one episode which is actually see season two Episode one

And then we also have a story that we read from it's a collective of stories and and it's it's kind of impressive

It's basically The Clone Wars. They heard a bunch of writers. Maybe it's like their test bed before they give books away

I don't know how this works, but it's like this uh this

It's like this uh this compendium. Is that we call it compendium. I think it's compendium

Compendium. Yeah. Okay. So here's here's where we're gonna go with this compendium or compendium

This is what is where the word compendium in my life. Okay, so here's

And here's the thing I was actually talking my daughter about the other day when people mispronounce words

It's you generally because they've read them and in their mind

They've said them one way correct and they have not heard them spoken for years

I think for honest to goodness 21 years of my life and I may have said this before I said the word

facade

Or fascade. I'm sorry. I said fascade. Yeah, yeah

Yeah, I said fascade but I meant facade and I did this it's a general programming term

It's used in a lot of programming ways and I said this for years and years and no one corrected me

And then which is that's a little odd. Yeah, no one corrects at all. But what and yeah, but here's the thing I

learned long ago

Someone pointed out to me someone I respected pointed out to me that if someone says

I'm a little like fascade

That means they're well read they're reading more beyond their their limited world and

You should never mock that. Yeah, I agree totally agree with that. And that's exactly what I was trying to convey to my daughter

I was just like when somebody mispronounces a word and they know the word they know the definition of the word

They're just mispronouncing the word. You always just say I've always heard it as this

Yeah, you know

So I think that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing

Oh, go ahead. What were you saying?

I've... What was I saying?

It's hard not to be... It's hard not to come off like a condescending jerk.

Exactly.

If someone says like, Fascade.

Yeah, exactly.

Or pat him on the shoulder. No, it's facade.

Yeah, yeah.

You know, it's just... You're going to be condescending. It's really hard to avoid that.

If you can, good for you.

Because no one wants to be made to feel like an idiot.

And like I said, it's a sign of being well read. And that's fantastic.

And that's what you got to remember. I totally agree with that.

So anyways, this Compendium. Did I say that right? Compendium?

Sure.

All right. This Compendium is a bunch of different stories from The Clone Wars era.

And we're going to talk about timelines a bit tonight.

Because on our timeline, and we're using a timeline that we found off Reddit,

that is really good. It's really amazing. And I don't want to down it at all.

But I was kind of amazed that this wasn't right after the episode of this.

So basically, this story is about episode... Season 1, episode 11.

But it's from Doku's point of view.

And I was really kind of amazed that after watching that episode,

that this didn't come immediately after in the timeline. You know what I mean?

Should we just cover that now?

Yeah, let's do it.

Go ahead and cover that now?

Yeah, let's go ahead and cover it now. Let's talk about it.

So I had exactly the same thought.

And I... To be honest with you, I didn't get much out of it.

Because we've already seen the story.

And there wasn't... I didn't get a lot of...

Because it was from Doku's perspective, I didn't get a lot of revelations.

It was pretty much exactly what I expected him to say.

Yeah. So, okay. So just for readers that don't know,

there's a short story inside this Compendium that is by Lou Anders.

And it's well written.

I don't know that I necessarily liked Doku's character as much in this.

He seemed so... Like, he seemed over the top full of himself.

You know what I mean?

I'm going to disagree with you. He, to me, was the character from that episode.

All right. Fair enough. Fair enough.

So basically, this is...

It's part of the problem, because it wasn't interesting.

It's like, yeah, I've seen this.

Yeah. So when you watch the episode, it's a good episode.

We both enjoyed this episode.

Sure.

And there are actually lines in this episode that I'm quoting on the podcast,

being like, I really enjoyed this.

It's a neat episode.

It's a neat mixture of Jedi, Sith,

having to get out of something that's a third-party type situation.

And the story is basically just being told from Doku's point of view,

but it's really not anything enlightening.

Does that make sense?

Like, it's not... It doesn't show anything new in the story.

Which is what I was expecting.

I agree. I totally agree.

When I got like five pages in, I was like,

oh, this is going to be some juicy details that we missed inside the episode.

But no, it was just the episode recap by Doku.

Yep.

I was not impressed too much with the story.

I hope it's not a Harbinger of things to come.

That the other stories in this book are more fleshed out.

Or they flesh out that event, whatever they're covering, in greater detail.

Because that's really what I thought I was getting.

I felt the only thing that you got from Doku was how pissed he was at the Jedi.

That was it. Everything else was just kind of like...

Oh, you didn't get that from the episode itself, did you?

Well, you do.

So I remember during the episode where...

And I remember from our podcast where I said one of my favorite lines

that I've seen thus far in all this canon material that we've read was

when Doku, who's being chained to Obi-Wan and Anakin,

says, I would have killed you, but I didn't want to drag your bodies around.

It was very dark. I was just like, that is a great line.

And he repeats it again in the story, and it's a great line.

It's awesome.

But then you're just kind of like, I've already read that?

Would you have rather read this story before you saw the episode

or saw the episode before you read the story?

Ooh, that's a good question.

It is.

That is a good question.

Would I, if I'm reading the story...

I think that would be better, yes.

If I had read the story first and then seen the episode,

that would have been more enlightening.

That would have been more fulfilling.

Yeah, totally agree.

You would have seen... let me say this.

I think I would have seen the Weekei and Hondo in a little bit different light.

Because I think in the cartoon it brings out this kind of like

we're this rag-tag bunch of mercenary guys that are going to upend everyone.

Whereas in the story, he's just kind of like, these idiots captured me.

I don't know how they captured me, but they did.

You know, it's just kind of like a...

And I think they would have presented it in a different way.

So if you're listening to this and have not seen Season 1,

Episode 11 of The Clone Wars, the animated series,

and do have the Stories of Dark and Light Clone Wars book,

go read this Dogu Captured before you watch the Dogu Captured episode.

I think that's really all I can say about this.

I just didn't feel like it was anything great.

I don't know.

I feel bad saying that for the author, but it's just kind of like,

okay, well, it was just a rehash.

Well, damn.
