The Spark Eternal is a divine power, who is believed to have a direct involvement in the creation and the overseeing of the Star Wars universe. Essentially, the Spark Eternal is the Star Wars universe’s parallel or analogous concept to a supreme being or a deity in our real-world religions and philosophies. The exact nature of the Spark Eternal, however, is shrouded in mystery, as it's talked about sparingly and in rather cryptic terms within Star Wars lore.
The Spark Eternal was mentioned only once, in the novel "Star Wars: Master and Apprentice", written by Claudia Gray. In the book, the Spark Eternal was referred to in a prophecy: "When The Force itself sickens, past and future must split and combine. A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in The Force be restored. Through him, will the power known as the ‘Spark Eternal’ be realized."
The prophecy mentions The Chosen One, born of no father, which directly refers to Anakin Skywalker, who was believed to have been conceived by midi-chlorians, microorganisms in the fictional Star Wars universe that allowed individuals to interact with the Force. The purpose of the Chosen One was to bring balance to the Force, acting as possibly the manifestation of the Spark Eternal.
There has been a wide range of interpretations about what exactly the Spark Eternal is. Some believe it could refer to an element of the Force, or an entity that maintains and ensures balance within the Force. Others speculate it may simply represent the perpetual drive for balance and the continuing struggle between the light side and the dark side.
However, as it stands, the concept of the Spark Eternal is something profoundly cosmic and transcendent; a concept that exists at the highest level of Star Wars mythology. Much is unknown and its true nature and role in the universe is yet to be thoroughly and explicitly explored within the realm of Star Wars.
