Providence-class Dreadnought

Ships

The Providence-class Dreadnought, also known as the Providence-class carrier/destroyer, served as a formidable capital ship within the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) during The Clone Wars. Originally designed by the Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps and constructed on Pammant, these warships were instrumental in the Confederacy's efforts against the Galactic Republic. Measuring over 1,088 meters in length, the Providence-class was heavily armed with an array of weaponry including heavy turbolaser cannons, ion cannons, point-defense laser cannons, and an impressive complement of proton torpedo launchers. Additionally, these vessels boasted powerful deflector shields and were capable of housing numerous starfighters, landing craft, and battle droids, rendering them versatile in both offensive and defensive operations.

One of the most famous vessels in this class was the Invisible Hand, General Grievous's flagship. The Invisible Hand gained notoriety during the Battle of Coruscant, where it played a pivotal role in capturing Chancellor Palpatine, an event that was crucial to the progression of the Clone Wars. Despite their significant capabilities, many Providence-class Dreadnoughts were either destroyed, decommissioned, or repurposed after the end of the Clone Wars with the rise of the Galactic Empire. Despite their relatively short period of use, these ships left a lasting legacy and remain iconic representations of the strategic might of the CIS.
