Pau'an

Species

The Pau'ans, also known as Utapauns, are a species in the Star Wars universe who are natives of the planet Utapau, a world located in the Outer Rim Territories. The Pau'ans were humanoids who were generally taller than most humans, with an average adult standing at about two meters. Their most noticeable characteristics included their gaunt, skeletal physique with their flesh being gray, wrinkled and hanging loosely around their bodies. Notable members of the species include Tion Medon, Port Administrator of Pau City, who was a key character in the movie Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Pau'ans had long lifespans, often living well over a hundred standard years. The conditions on Utapau, particularly the scarcity of natural light in their sinkhole cities, also led the Pau'ans to evolve a level of sight beyond the visual spectrum, which allowed them to see in infrared. They were known to be a peaceful but wary people. Their culture was noted for its solemn rituals and a society led by master artisans. Pau'ans practiced an annual tradition named the “Gathering,” during which all the planetary leaders assembled in Pau City to share news and make governing decisions for Utapau.
