Rotta, colloquially referred to as "Pedunkee Mufkin" or "Punky Muffin" by his father, Jabba the Hutt, is a character in the Star Wars universe who first appeared in the Skywalker saga prequel film, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (2008). He's a Huttlet, the son of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, one of the galaxy's most powerful gangsters and known for his brutal and ruthless tactics. Rotta's character is designed to appear more innocent, almost endearing, compared to his notorious father.
The infant Hutt was kidnapped in the film "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", in a plot orchestrated by Count Dooku to frame the Jedi for the crime and pit Jabba against them. However, the plot was revealed and foiled by Anakin Skywalker and his apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, who managed to return Rotta safely to his father. This significant event further solidified the alliance between the Jedi and the Hutt Clan.
Rotta was portrayed in the movie as a vulnerable, ill, and crying baby, quite opposite to the typical Hutt disposition. Although not much is known about the character beyond this, Rotta's existence cuts to the core of a rarely seen dimension of Hutt culture - their familial relationships, suggesting that even crime lords in a galaxy far, far away aren't immune to the pressures and responsibilities of parenthood.
Rotta the Huttlet may not have had immense screen time or story development in the Star Wars Universe, but his character certainly provided some depth to Jabba's personality and an interesting twist in the narrative of the Clone Wars film. It added a contrasting view of the Hutt species, shifting from the commonly known image of ruthless gangsters to showcasing an image of a protective and caring parent, albeit in a galaxy infamous for its crime and corruption.
