In Episode IV: A New Hope, he was mentioned as the employer of Han Solo and placed a bounty on the smuggler's head for dumping a shipment of illegal goods. In Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Jabba is the central antagonist, holding Han Solo captive in carbonite while also capturing Princess Leia Organa and forcing her to serve as his slave. The heroes, led by Luke Skywalker, orchestrated a daring rescue mission at Jabba's palace, which ultimately led to the crime lord's death.
Though Jabba the Hutt met his demise in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, his character has continued to make appearances in various forms of Star Wars media. This includes the prequel film, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, where he served as the host for the podracing event that Anakin Skywalker competed in.
