The Darth Maul lookalike that has garnered attention amongst Star Wars fans is Savage Opress, a character who bears a striking resemblance to the Sith Lord in terms of appearance and skillset. Savage Opress is a Dathomirian Zabrak Nightbrother who became a Sith Lord apprentice and played a significant role in the extended Star Wars universe, particularly during The Clone Wars era. He was initially a character introduced in The Clone Wars animated television series and later appeared in various comic books, novels, and video games.

Savage Opress was created by Talzin, the leader of the Nightsisters, as part of a plot to seek revenge on Count Dooku for betraying her and her sisters. Talzin, using her dark magic along with the help of her Nightsister clan, imbued Savage with extraordinary strength, agility, and mastery of the dark side of The Force, transforming him into the fearsome warrior and Sith apprentice that he became. His appearance, similar to Darth Maul's, can be attributed to their shared Zabrak origins and the Nightbrother markings that adorned their bodies.

After his transformation, Savage was enlisted by Count Dooku as his personal assassin and apprentice in the dark side of the Force. However, his true loyalty was to Asajj Ventress and Mother Talzin, who were secretly plotting to overthrow Dooku. During this time, Savage participated in several missions against the Jedi and the Republic, but their plan to kill Dooku ultimately failed. This resulted in Savage's betrayal of Ventress and Dooku, leading him to embark on a quest for personal power and vengeance.

On his journey, Savage discovered the truth about his kinship with a Zabrak Sith Lord named Darth Maul, who had seemingly died in Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Maul, however, had managed to survive, albeit with severe injuries and a shattered mind. Upon finding Maul and with the help of Mother Talzin's magic, Savage was able to restore Maul's mind and body. The two Zabrak brothers then joined forces, with Maul training Savage in the ways of the Sith.

As a duo, Savage Opress and Darth Maul intended to create their own powerful crime syndicate and reshape the galaxy as they saw fit. They formed alliances with various criminal organizations and warlords, including The Mandalorian splinter group known as Death Watch. However, their actions did not go unnoticed, and both the Jedi and the Sith pursued the two brothers in an attempt to put an end to their machinations.

The alliance between Maul and Savage came to a tragic end when they faced off against Darth Sidious, the reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, in combat. Sidious, after realizing that the Zabrak brothers had become a significant threat to his rule, decided to take matters into his own hands. During the confrontation, Savage was fatally wounded, and in his last moments, the dark magic that had transformed him into a monstrous warrior dissipated, returning him to his original appearance. Grief-stricken and vengeful, Darth Maul managed to escape Sidious, setting the stage for further conflicts in the Star Wars narrative.
