Cornelius Evazan, also known as "Roofoo" or "The Doctor," is a fascinating character from the Star Wars franchise. He first appeared in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and was portrayed by British actor Alfie Curtis. Evazan was a notorious criminal who, alongside his companion Ponda Baba, caused trouble across the galaxy before encountering Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Mos Eisley Cantina.
Before his life took a dark turn, Evazan was a promising, albeit unorthodox, cosmetic surgeon on the planet Alsakan. Unfortunately, his career faltered when he began conducting cruel surgical experiments that mutilated his patients. This earned him not just infamy, but also a death sentence in twelve systems.
The Doctor's life took an ominous turn after meeting Ponda Baba, an Aqualish thug. Forming a partnership based on shared criminal tendencies, the pair travelled the galaxy, conducting dangerous surgical alterations and illicit activities. Together, they transformed countless beings into 'The Decraniated' - mindless, obedient monstrosities.
The duo had a fateful encounter with Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine. An altercation ensued, initiated by Evazan and Baba. However, they bit off more than they could chew, ending in a swift and decisive defeat at the hands of Kenobi.
Evazan and Ponda managed to survive their encounter with Kenobi and continued their criminal activities. They were later spotted in Jedha City on the moon Jedha, shortly before the city's destruction by the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV – Rogue One. Their ultimate fate remains a mystery in the Star Wars lore.
Despite his brief screen time, Cornelius Evazan left a lasting impact on Star Wars fans. His mysterious background and unscrupulous activities make him one of the franchise's most memorable rogues. His sinister reputation extends well beyond the movies, appearing in expanded universe material such as comics, novels, and action figures.
