Ben Solo

Characters

Ben Solo, portrayed by Adam Driver, is a central character in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy. Born to Han Solo and Leia Organa, the character serves as a major protagonist in "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi". His birth was steeped in much anticipation and excitement in the "Star Wars" galaxy, as he is both the grandson of Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader, and the nephew of the famed Jedi warrior, Luke Skywalker.

Ben's immense power and potential became evident at a young age, leading his mother, Leia, to send him to train under his uncle, Luke Skywalker, with the hopes of developing his talents in a way that reflects the values of the Light side of the Force. However, hidden from his parents, Ben was being influenced by Supreme Leader Snoke, the antagonist of the sequel trilogy, which led him to embrace the Dark side of the Force.

His conversion to the Dark side results in a drastic transformation, where he abandons his birth name and takes up the moniker Kylo Ren, as he becomes a prominent figure in the First Order, a tyrannical regime looking to assert dominance over the galaxy. Kylo Ren's identification with the Dark side grows so intense that he destroys Luke's reborn Jedi Order and even murders his father, Han Solo, in an attempt to sever all ties with his past life.

Despite his embrace of malevolence, Kylo Ren continues to grapple with internal conflict. This internal struggle reflects his pull towards the Light side, which continues to linger within him. He is particularly drawn towards Rey, a young, force-sensitive woman, who he forms a complex bond with. Their connection serves as a central plot point in the sequel trilogy, inducing a different perspective to the character of Kylo Ren.

His redemption comes in "Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker", where he rejects the Dark side, renouncing his Kylo Ren persona and re-embracing his identity as Ben Solo. This transformation follows a vision of his father, Han Solo, who forgives him for his past sins. Ben Solo sacrifices himself to revive Rey, demonstrating his ultimate redemption and acceptance of the Light side of the Force.

Ben Solo's storyline represents a profound exploration of identity, redemption, and the struggle between Light and Dark, integral themes within the "Star Wars" saga.
