Ruusan

Planets

The Ruusan is a significant location within the Star Wars universe, particularly notable in the expanded universe of books, comics, and video games outside of the main films. It is a terrestrial planet known for its expansive and dense forests and its generally mild weather. It was located in the Mid Rim territories within the galaxy.

In the Star Wars universe history, Ruusan had been a largely peaceful planet, notable primarily for its natural beauty and its bouncers, benign floating creatures native to the planet. During the Jedi versus Sith era, it was discovered that the planet had a hidden dark side energy that attracted many Sith lords. This led to the great Battle of Ruusan, which was a critical event in the Star Wars universe and particularly in Sith history.

The Battle of Ruusan occurred approximately 1,000 years before the Star Wars prequel trilogy. It was the final large-scale conflict of the New Sith Wars, a conflict between the Jedi Order and various groups of Sith. Over a series of seven battle campaigns, the Sith forces were pushed back to the planet Ruusan. These pivotal battles ended with the perceived extinction of the Sith.

Yet, the end of these battles saw the rise of Darth Bane, the Sith survivor from the Battle of Ruusan who started 'Rule of Two', a philosophy that would shape Sith ideology for centuries to come. The 'Rule of Two' suggests that there must only be two Sith at a time - a master and an apprentice, thereby ensuring their survival and strength.

Ruusan's place in the Star Wars universe has even transcended its original Expanded Universe origins. With the revision of the Star Wars canon in 2014, Ruusan's status had been uncertain. However, the planet was mentioned in the 2015 Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "The Lost One," thereby canonizing it in the new continuity. Today, the effect of Ruusan and the historical events that took place there continue to ripple throughout the non-stop expanding Star Wars universe.
