The Order of the Bomarr, also known as Bomarr Monks, is a fascinating aspect of the extensive Star Wars universe. This titular order is not commonly showcased in the mainstream movies but is an intricate part of the broader lore and expands upon the rich tapestry of religions and philosophies in Star Wars, outside of the well-known Jedi and Sith orders. The Order of the Bomarr is essentially a monastic order, located mainly on Tatooine, with a unique approach to enlightenment and existence.
Bomarr Monks are known for their extreme path to enlightenment - believing a supreme being can only be reached by separating the mind from bodily distractions and limitations. Thus, to do so, they remove their brains from their bodies, demote the physical form's importance, and place their grey matter inside nutrient-filled jars. Once this extreme measure is accomplished, the brain is typically attached to a simple, spider-like droid body for mobility.
These monks practiced an unusual style of contemplation where their brains, located inside jars, communicated through binary-code generated pulses. This intense practice reflects a form of worship called "Mathemat". Their enlightened state was considered reached when their thoughts had distilled down to a single pure calculation.
The order is most famously associated with the palace of Jabba the Hutt, which was originally a monastery for the Bomarr Monks. After the notorious gangster took control of the building, the monks were allowed to stay in the palace's lower levels, continuing their unique meditation and existence.
Though sparse in the mainstream Star Wars narrative, the Bomarr Monks offer an eccentric twist on the philosophies and religions within the galaxy at large. These monks serve as a testament to the vivid and unusual lengths one might go to reach enlightenment within the Star Wars universe.
