LM-432 crab droid

The LM-432 Crab droid, also known as the muckraker, is a robotics tactical droid model utilised primarily by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during The Clone Wars. Produced by the Techno Union, the crab droid was designed for anti-personnel and anti-vehicle purposes with the ability to perform efficiently in a variety of environments including swamps, forests, and cities.

The name "crab droid" is derived from its crab-like appearance, featuring six-legs for mobility and a central body housing its weapons and sensory systems. Its robust design is characterised by powerful pincer-like limbs and a sturdily armoured hull. The primary function of these limbs is to serve as weapon platforms, but can also be used to carry heavy loads, climb vertical surfaces or even swim underwater.

Equipped with twin blasters, in addition to its physical strength, the LM-432 crab droid possesses commendable offensive capabilities. The droid’s primary weapon, a medium blaster cannon, is mounted on the front of the main body, while another blaster is installed on its dorsal facing. This makes the crab droid a formidable opponent in battle.

There are two commonly encountered sizes of this model: a small version approximately the size of a starfighter, and a larger version as tall as an AT-TE walker. The smaller model functions as a scout and the larger version serves in heavy combat situations. Both sizes are used for their ability to traverse difficult terrains that most of the Separatist’s other war machines could not handle, thanks to its ability to scale vertical cliffs and cross swampy landscapes.

Given its relatively low cost to manufacture and flexibility in deployment, the LM-432 crab droid was widely used by the Separatist forces in numerous battles, notably on planets such as Magito and Utapau. Despite its strengths however, these droids were still susceptible to heavy artillery fire and were consequently often deployed alongside heavier droids for added protection.
