The Great Hyperspace Disaster is a cataclysmic event in the "Star Wars" universe, specifically set in the 'High Republic' time period, over two hundred years before the events of the 'Skywalker Saga'. The disaster transpired when Starlight Beacon, a star station, was about to enter the final phase of completion. The event was incited by a hyperspace incident involving the Legacy Run, a freighter ship, which broke apart in hyperspace. Fragments of the ship were then dispersed across the galaxy at hyperspace velocity, causing massive destruction.

These high-speed fragments became disasters known as 'Emergences'. The Emergences struck without warning and caused untold devastation. Entire star systems like the Hetzal system were at risk of annihilation. The disaster had far-reaching effects, both physical and political. Following the disaster, travel through hyperspace was restricted, and many worlds became isolated.
