Bespin

Bespin is a fictional gas giant planet in the Star Wars universe. First introduced in "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980), it is home to Cloud City, which is a floating, atmospheric Metropolis. The planet is noted for its abundant natural resource of a rare gas called Tibanna, used in blaster weapons and hyperdrive coolant, harvested and processed in Cloud City.

The city is governed by an administrator, who by the time of the original trilogy, is none other than Lando Calrissian, a character and ally of Han Solo. Bespin and Cloud City undergo significant drama and conflict due to their strategic value and the Empire's efforts to control these resources, defining the key events of "The Empire Strikes Back".

The Cloud City also provides an iconic setting for one of the most significant events in the Star Wars storyline: the clash between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker where the truth about Luke's parentage is first revealed. Appearing in subsequent media, Bespin continues to play important roles in the expansive Star Wars universe.
