Jedi Star Compass

Jedi

The Jedi Star Compass, also known as the Skywalker Compass, is an important artifact in the Star Wars universe. It is a navigation device used by the Jedi Order, which plays a major role in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars. It was first introduced in 'The Last Jedi' movie, during a scene in which Luke Skywalker is seen picking it up from a shelf in Emperor Palpatine's Observatorium on the Sith homeworld of Exegol.

The Jedi Star Compass has a circular metallic case with an ancient star chart in its center. A thin needle, rotated by a series of gears and cogs, points to the desired location. The craftsmanship of the compass indicates that it is as much a work of art as a directional tool. Despite its small size, the compass is imbued with Force-sensitive properties, linking it to the Jedi's mystical understanding of the universe.

The actual origins of the Jedi Star Compass are still a mystery. Although it is presumed that the Jedi Order used this device, it is not explained how it came to Palpatine's possession or his Observatory. After Luke's acquisition of the Compass, it becomes a significant item in his repertoire, even inspiring a replica to be made in 'Battlefront II', a Star Wars game.

In 'The Last Jedi', the Compass becomes a key tool for Luke Skywalker as he charts a course to the elusive, ancient Jedi temple on Ahch-To. This leads to his self-imposed exile where Rey finds him. The compass later ends up on display in the Jedi archives, a testament to its historical and cultural significance in the Jedi Order.

Despite its appearance in the sequel Star Wars trilogy and a few associated video games, major details about the Jedi Star Compass remain unknown, leaving much room for Star Wars lore expansion. It continues to be an artifact of intrigue, generating speculation about its detailed workings, origins, and possible future roles in the Star Wars universe.
