Ghorman

Planets

Introduced in the Star Wars universe, Ghorman is a planet located in the remote Sern Sector of the Outer Rim Territories. The planet was known for its industrial sectors. It was primarily urbanized, with high-rises and buildings dominating the landscape. Despite being located in a corner of the galaxy, Ghorman played quite a significant role in the history of the Star Wars universe, especially during the rise of the Galactic Empire.

During the reign of the Republic, Ghorman was represented in the Galactic Senate by Vidar Kim, a realist who strongly believed in the Republic, particularly in its Law and Order. After Vidar Kim's unfortunate death, his seat was assigned to his son, Roni Kim. Roni had different views on politics compared to his father. His political approach played a crucial part during the transition from the Republic to the Empire.

The Ghorman Massacre is a defining event for the planet and played a fundamental role in the formation of the Rebel Alliance. This incident happened shortly before the rise of the Empire when protestors stood against the authoritarian behaviors of the then-Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. The demonstration ended tragically when a Star Destroyer, commanded by Wilhuff Tarkin, landed on the protestors.

Tarkin's brutal act turned into a key motivator for different sectors to join the Rebellion. The event was used as a symbol of Imperial cruelty during the Rebel Alliance's recruitment. Ghorman became a significant planet that indirectly fueled the start of the civil war within the Star Wars galaxy.

During the Galactic Civil War, Ghorman became a stronghold for the Rebellion. It continued to hold historical importance even after the fall of the Galactic Empire. When the New Republic was formed, Ghorman was once again part of the new ruling governance where it strived to serve on its principles of peace and justice, the complete opposite of the previous Empire.

Therefore, while Ghorman might not be the most famous planet in the Star Wars universe, it possesses great significance. It stood as a beacon of hope against the tyranny of the Empire and played a crucial role in shaping the events in the Star Wars history.
