The Form VII, also known as Juyo or Vaapad, represents the most aggressive form of lightsaber combat and is also regarded as the most difficult one to master. It's often called the "Ferocity Form" due to its use of powerful, chaotic, and unpredictable movements, requiring the user to be in a specific state of mind, channeling controlled fury and a clear mental focus.
Juyo, the first variant of Form VII, is described as being very energetic, direct, and aggressive. Contrary to other forms, Juyo does not prioritize defensive techniques, meaning its users are always on the offensive and ready to land crippling blows on an opponent. This style thrives on powerful strikes and complex, erratic movements to confuse and overpower enemies. Maintaining control is crucial as the line between the light and dark sides of The Force can become blurred when using this variant.
The second variant, Vaapad, was developed by Jedi Master Mace Windu, who took the principles of Juyo and improved upon them. Windu's version turned a path to the dark side into a channel for light, allowing the user to use their aggression in a controlled fashion, thus creating a loop of feedback power between the Vaapad practitioner and their opponent. Vaapad users could also redirect this energy against the enemy. It's because of this feedback loop that Vaapad was described as more than just a fighting style; it was a state of mind.
However, the use of Form VII was quite controversial within the Jedi Order. Its emphasis on aggression and the need to ride the edge of the dark side made many Jedi uncomfortable. It was even banned for training for some time because of its potential to lure Jedi to the dark side. Few Jedi chose or were permitted to learn this style due to these concerns.
Form VII, with its two variants, Juyo and Vaapad, characterizes an aggressive and often risky approach to lightsaber combat. While it can be a potent and powerful form, the emotional investment required makes it a danger to those who are not fully in control of their feelings, potentially leading to the dark side. As such, Form VII has achieved an infamous reputation and notoriety within the Jedi Order and the Star Wars lore at large.
