Asmeru

The Asmeru, in Star Wars lore, are an intelligent species from the forest world of Taboon. Physically, they are identified as four-legged serpents or a race of serpent-beings. In terms of culture, the Asmeru swathe their entire bodies in rich tapestries when interacting with outsiders, a narrative thought to be intricately tied up with religious or social symbolism.

The Asmeru's rightful place in the Star Wars universe was established when they hired the Bilar, another alien species, to seize an Old Republic cruiser called the 'Katana Fleet'. This was part of a convoluted plan by the crime lord Hoffner to lure the New Republic and the forces of Thrawn into a confrontation. Although the Asmeru do not play key roles in the central Star Wars narrative, they provide a fine example of the variety and depth of life in the Star Wars galaxy. Their real presence and actions were also noted in the novel "Dark Force Rising" by Timothy Zahn.
