Leia Organa, portrayed by the late Carrie Fisher, is a central character in the Star Wars saga, appearing in various films, animated series, books, comics, and other media in the franchise. She was first introduced in George Lucas' Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) as Princess Leia Organa, the courageous leader of the Rebel Alliance fighting against the oppressive Galactic Empire. Leia is widely regarded as a icon of empowerment for women, breaking traditional gender stereotypes by displaying resilience, intelligence, and a natural ability to lead.

Born Leia Amidala Skywalker, she is the twin sister of Luke Skywalker and the daughter of the Republic leader Padmé Amidala and the fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, who later became the infamous Sith Lord Darth Vader. The twins were separated at birth to protect them from the tyranny of the Emperor and their father's dark influence. Leia was adopted by Alderaan's royal family, the Organas, and raised as their own alongside her adoptive brother Bail Organa.
