Imperial guards

The Imperial Royal Guards, also known as the Emperor's Royal Guard, are an elite unit of the Galactic Empire's armed forces tasked with the protection of Emperor Palpatine. First appearing in 'Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi', they are distinguished by their crimson robes and helmets. They are chosen from the ranks of the stormtroopers, the military soldiers of the Empire, but are considered to be superior in terms of combat skills and loyalty.

While their primary duty is the protection of the Emperor, Imperial Royal Guards are also assigned to guarding important Imperial locales and individuals.
